Vista has powerful network functions, but it is not widely used by most users. In addition, some default network settings and restrictions of Vista are not conducive to the full potential of Vista's network. This article will explore Vista's network functions from three aspects: network optimization, network failure, and network breakthrough, in order to help you.

I. Network Optimization

1. Double insurance for Vista fixed IP addresses and dynamic IP addresses (DHCP)

The DHCP server saves the trouble of setting IP addresses, but not all local networks provide DHCP servers. In this case, you only need to manually set IP addresses. In Vista, you can set a fixed IP address and dynamic IP address. If a DHCP server obtains an IP address from the DHCP server, otherwise, a specified IP address is used. Double insurance ensures smooth network connection.

Procedure: Start> Control Panel> network and Internet. Double-click Network and sharing center ", click "manage network connections" on the left and right-click the corresponding Nic In the "Network Connections" folder that is opened, for example, "Local Connection", and select the "properties" command, in the displayed window, select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click the "properties" button below. In the displayed window, select "automatically obtain IP Address" and "automatically obtain DNS server address.

Click the "Backup configuration" tab, select the "user configuration" item in the window, and enter the fixed IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and preferred DNS server address, for example, after setting 192.168.1.10, 255.255.255.0, and 192.168.1.11, the IP address is obtained from the DHCP server when DHCP exists on our computer. Otherwise, the fixed IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and preferred DNS server address will be used. (Figure 1)

2. Uninstall redundant protocols to enable the NIC to be installed lightly

In Windows vista, many protocols are bound to the "local connection" by default, causing unnecessary burden on the protocols. In fact, according to the network principle, the fewer protocols bound to the network card, the easier it is to "lightly mount the network interface", and the faster the network speed.

The procedure is as follows: "Control Panel" → "network and Internet", double-click "network and sharing center", and click "manage network connection" on the left in the window that opens ", in the window that appears, right-click "Local Connection", select "properties", and then cancel the corresponding protocol in the window that appears. Generally, "QoS packet scheduler" and "Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" can be canceled. If you only access the Internet without accessing a special network, you can also remove "Link Layer Topology Discovery er I/O driver" and "Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder ". If you do not share files in the LAN, you can remove "Microsoft network client" and "Microsoft network file and printer sharing ". Generally, you only need to retain "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4. (Figure 2)

3. Reset the NIC power management so that Vista can access the Internet when it wakes up.

If your network card supports energy saving or wireless network card may encounter such a situation, when we make Vista sleep, you can wake up the system from sleep, however, we cannot access the Internet when the network card is awake. In fact, this is because, by default, the wireless network adapter enters sleep after the system is down, and the network adapter is slower to recover from sleep than the general hardware. In this regard, we can disable the sleep function of the wireless network card. After all, it consumes less energy.

To set the network adapter, right-click "computer"> "manage"> "Device Manager" on the system desktop, expand "network adapter" in the right window, and right-click the corresponding network adapter, select "properties" in the pop-up menu ". In the displayed dialog box, switch to the "power management" option and deselect the "allow computer to close this device to save power" option selected by the system by default ". Click OK to save the settings and exit. Alternatively, choose "Control Panel"> "Power Management", click "Change Plan Settings" under "balance", and then click "change advanced power settings ", expand "wireless adapter device" and set its energy saving mode to "Highest performance. (Figure 3)

Ii. network faults

1. Vista Nic self-diagnosis function

Sometimes, Vista cannot be connected to the Internet for some reason. If you encounter such a problem, we suggest you try Vista's Nic self-diagnosis function to eliminate the fault. The operation method is as follows: Enter the "Network Connection" window, right-click "Local Connection" and select "diagnose". Then, Vista will open the window shown in 4, if you select the reset item below, the system will automatically fix it. Generally, it can be used directly after repair. In addition, you can also right-click the NIC icon at the task tray and select "diagnosis and repair". The effect is the same. (Figure 4)

2. Disable auto-tuning.

If the network configuration is correct, the page cannot be displayed when you open some websites in Vista. This may be caused by the> CP Auto-Tuning Function of Vista. The solution is to disable this function.

The operation is as follows: if you do not log on to the system using the Administrator account, click Start, type A command in the Start search box, and open the command prompt with the Administrator account, the command is "runas/user: local_Computer_Nameadministrator cmd". When the system prompts to enter the Administrator account password, type the Administrator account password and open the cmd with the Administrator permission. Then, enter the following command "netsh tcp set global autotuninglevel = disabled" at the command prompt to disable the TCP auto-tuning function, and restart the computer to access the website. (Figure 5)

3. Reset Winsock settings

In Windows Vista, the TCP/IP stack Winsock settings sometimes have odd problems, leading to the failure to access the Internet. Generally, this is mostly caused by improper software settings, viruses or malware, or even some poor antivirus or security software. When a problem occurs in Winsock settings, although the system is successfully connected to the Internet from the perspective of network connection, the web page cannot be accessed, and errors such as "Page cannot be found" are displayed. In this case, we need to reset Winsock to restore it to the initial available state.

Specific operation steps: Open the command line with administrator permissions, enter the following command "netsh winsock reset" to restart the computer after the operation is complete. In this way, the Winsock settings in Windows Vista will be reset to the initial state, removing the impact of various improper settings that may cause network errors. (Figure 6)

Iii. Network breakthrough

1. Modify the Hosts file

In XP, We will modify the Hosts file to implement some network applications. But in Vista, if you do not log on to the system as Administrator, the system will prompt "Access Denied" when you modify the Hosts file or Lmhosts file ", this problem occurs even if you log on with an account with administrative creden. In fact, this is also caused by permissions. Only the Administrator has the permission to modify the file.

In fact, there is no need to log on to the system again using the Administrator. Just click Start> All Programs> attachments, right-click notepad, and select Run as Administrator ". Enter the Administrator password as prompted to open a notepad with Administrator permissions and use it to open the Hosts file or Lmhosts file for necessary changes, click "save" on the "edit" menu. (Figure 7)

2. Number of Cracked connections

Windows XP SP2 released by Microsoft adds the limit for simultaneous TCP connection attempts and is set to a very small value of 10. When the system's TCP connection attempts exceed this value, the connection is denied due to security reasons. This problem also exists in Windows vista. When we use thunder and other software to download software, the download speed will be very slow. At this time, if we try to open the web page, we will not be able to open it. In this regard, we can use third-party tools to set the number of TCP connections of Vista. In fact, these tools are some batch processing scripts. We only need to download them and double-click them to run them. Enter the number of connections as needed, such as 5000, and then restart the computer. (Figure 8)

3. adjust settings

In Windows vista, Microsoft introduced a new feature named "Auto Tuning" for TCP/IP. According to Microsoft's statement, "Auto Tuning" can be adjusted and optimized based on network application conditions, this increases the network transmission rate. However, in many cases, it does not play the expected effect, especially when the network adapter uses a third-party driver, it may even greatly reduce the network connection rate. Therefore, we can set it to manual mode and determine whether to enable it based on actual needs.

The operation method is as follows: log on to the system as an administrator, open the Command Prompt window, enter "netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel = normal", and then restart the system. (
