Five strokes to fix Windows Vista system customization

Windows toolbar and its gadgets (small accessories that are helpful and entertaining on the right side of the desktop) are one of Vista's great features. So the first step you need to make is to keep the sidebar visible and add some new accessories.

Double-click the icon on the system tray to make the Windows toolbar visible. You can see that there are already some default accessories. Click the add tag above the toolbar to drag your favorite accessories into the sidebar. Click the "Get more Accessories online" link at the bottom right of the window to get more accessories.

When customizing accessories, move the mouse over it, click the floating icon, and select the displayed item. Move the mouse over it, and click X to remove the accessory. You can change the opacity of an accessory by right-clicking the accessory and selecting the value you want (from 20% to 100%) in the Opacity menu item.

3. Change file and folder settings

In Vista, the default display of files and folders is frustrating and annoying. By default, you cannot see system files, as well as hidden files and folders. Worse, most extension names are hidden.

It's very easy to modify all this. Open the browser and select Folder Options. Then select folder and Search options in the menu that appears, and click the Show folder Settings dialog box. Click Advanced Settings, and in the hidden files and folders group, select Show hidden files and folders. Then remove the "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected system files." Then click OK, and you'll see all the files that were meant to be displayed.

With the new Vista features ReadyBoost, a USB flash drive can easily improve vista speed. ReadyBoost stores commonly used files into flash memory to secure reading. Reading files from flash memory is much faster than reading files from your hard disk, which increases your computer's speed.

ReadyBoost can be 256mb-4gb as virtual memory. For best results, Microsoft recommends that the ratio between flash and system memory be between 1:1 and 2.5:1. In other words, if you have 512MB of RAM, you can use 512MB to 1.25GB capacity flash. If the system is 2GB memory, the use of 2GB to 4GB capacity of the flash effect is the best.

Note that not all USB flash drives are compliant with the ReadyBoost standard. It must support USB2.0 and transmit speed to read 3.5mb/seconds (4KB block), write speed 2.5mb/seconds (512KB block). So check to see if the standard is met before buying the flash drive.

However, there is no certification program to tell you which flash drive can be used, although Microsoft says it will eventually have such a certification program. However, there are already a number of third-party evaluation reports to address this issue. Of course, direct testing with ReadyBoost is also very convenient.

It is very convenient to use ReadyBoost. Insert the USB flash drive and select "Speed My System" in the options that appear on the monitor. If the flash drive does not apply, a prompt will appear on the monitor. If applicable, you will see the following window. Accept the default settings, or move the slider to change the usage capacity. Verify that "Use this device" is selected and click OK. That's all set!

5. Customize your desktop

Through Vista's desktop, you'll start a very wonderful computer career. So take some time to make your own desktop. There are a number of ways to customize the Windows desktop, including changing backgrounds, screensavers, and so on.

Right-click the desktop, select personalized, and a control panel to define any details of the desktop, as well as other Vista features, including sound and mouse icons.

The other settings are very simple except for the ease of color and transparency of custom windows. Click Window color and appearance. The following window appears. Click on the window to select your favorite color for your window. If you want to create a custom color, click on the "Show Color mixer" and use the slider to create one.

If you want the window to be translucent, check "semitransparent". When you change the transparency of a window, move the color concentration slider. The left is more transparent. Set it up, click OK.
