With the development of the routing industry, the routing technology is constantly updated and the demand is increasing. Here we mainly introduce the development status of the Broadband Router, including the technical characteristics of the WAN port. The more mud, the more powerful the Buddha is, the more powerful the foundation is, so there is a saying: the emergence of multi-Wan broadband routers.

The total bandwidth that users can obtain increases, and the network is also more stable. Therefore, "a large number of ports" is the key to talking about today. After the development of the market, the market will face fierce competition. For Internet cafes and other users, how to achieve high-speed and stable access through low costs is the key to winning the competition, A multi-Wan port Broadband Router can make great contributions. So what exactly is a multi-Wan port Broadband Router? Is it a flash in the pan or a evergreen tree? How does it meet application requirements? Which of the following is more suitable for multiple WAN ports ?......

1) What is a multi-Wan port?

The interface connecting a router to a WAN is called a WAN interface. Broadband routers with multiple WAN ports have changed the "one-to-many" Broadband Access Mode to "many-to-many, this fully satisfies the desire of enterprise users to own more bandwidth at no extra cost. This type of router allows users to share multiple broadband external lines in a LAN, without dividing the internal network into several independent parts based on the number of WAN ports. In fact, its working principle is to distribute various request data transmitted in the LAN to different broadband outlets with preset Load Balancing policies, so as to achieve intelligent dynamic information traffic distribution. As Session requests are distributed and persistent in the LAN, after allocation, the outbound bandwidth of the LAN is increased exponentially.

2) Why is it different from a single WAN port because of its technical features?

Is multiple broadband access integrated or independent? Most people will choose the former, and the multi-Wan port Broadband Router is a key device to achieve organic integration. It is also a hot topic in the recent network field. A multi-Wan port Broadband Router converts a "one-to-many" Broadband Access Method to "many-to-many". This router allows users to share multiple broadband access entries in a LAN, you do not need to divide the internal network into several independent parts based on the number of WAN ports. In fact, its working mechanism is to distribute all kinds of request data in the LAN to different broadband outlets based on the preset load balancing policy, the requested data is then returned from the egress, so as to achieve intelligent dynamic information delivery. As Session requests are distributed and continuously distributed in the LAN, after allocation, the outbound bandwidth of the LAN is increased exponentially.

With the development of Internet in China, Internet cafes that provide Internet services are also booming. Network administrators of many Internet cafe operators and enterprises are also facing a challenge in selecting an Internet access method: choosing an expensive and fully functional enterprise-level Router, or should I choose a single ADSL modem + proxy server? This problem seems to be a headache, which makes it impossible to have both the fish and the bear's paw. Some manufacturers have launched Internet cafe routers in a timely manner, meeting the requirements of Internet cafe users to share the Internet and replace expensive traditional enterprise-level routers to a certain extent. The choice of access methods often puts Internet cafe operators in a dilemma. As a result, the solution to replace traditional routers and proxy servers came into being. Some router manufacturers such as Xin Xiang, TP-LINK, ruijie, Boda, and AI have specially produced Internet cafe routers based on the characteristics of Internet cafes. In summary, there are three advantages for using a multi-WAN router.

A. Increase egress bandwidth

Taking Xinxiang's dual-WAN port router 5021 as an example, two ADSL or Ethernet broadband lines can be used to balance the load between the two WAN ports, which is equivalent to extending the total outbound bandwidth to twice the original bandwidth, at present, both ADSL and 10 M Ethernet bandwidth have very low monthly subscription fees, and the costs of applying for more than a few items are limited. The bandwidth has increased exponentially with limited fees, for larger networks, it is very good.

B. Line backup

Using a multi-Wan port router, applying for multiple lines and using multiple Modem, these lines can also be of different carriers, such as China Telecom's ADSL and 10 M Ethernet of China Netcom, when an ISP, cable, or Modem fails, the data traffic will be re-allocated to a non-Faulty port, and the entire network will not be interrupted.

C. Provide more content services

Different ISPs provide different game, chat, video-on-demand, and other services. These different content services are placed on the ISP Server. to enjoy these services, you must apply for corresponding ISP access. To provide multi-ISP content services, you must apply for multi-ISP access and use a multi-Wan port router.

D: load balancing is the key

The technical differences between the multi-WAN port broadband routers are not very large. The load balancing capability is the main feature of a single WAN port Broadband Router, and it is also an important indicator to evaluate the performance of the Multi-WAN port Broadband Router. The implementation of Server Load balancer varies according to different policies. Different from a single WAN port Broadband Router, due to the existence of multiple WAN ports, how to distribute the data traffic of each WAN port has become a problem that must be solved by the multi-WAN port Broadband Router. Various Load Balancing policies have also emerged. Different Server Load balancer policies have different processing methods. Even if the same hardware configuration is used, different Server Load balancer policies will have different performance during work.

3) How many WAN ports are there? Or is it more beneficial? How many WAN ports do we need?

Generally, the maximum number of bandwidth routers with multiple WAN ports is two. In terms of applications, is it significant to have three or even four WAN ports? Is so many WAN ports a challenge to the performance of the Broadband Router itself? Increasing bandwidth, line backup, and providing more content services can be achieved through multiple WAN ports of the Broadband Router. Obviously, theoretically, the more WAN ports there are, the more advantageous they are. In fact, this is not necessarily the case, and there is also a balance problem.

As a matter of fact, this question is also a matter of benevolence and wisdom. Su jianxun believes that the goal of increasing bandwidth in the most economical way has been pursued by many users in China, and many users are not satisfied with the change from 2 M to 4 M, or change from 10 M to 20 M. In addition, in some places, the cost of 10 M Ethernet access is higher than that of 4 2 m adsl, and the cost of one M access is higher than that of four 10 M broadband access, this increases users' desire for four WAN ports. In addition, telecom operators provide special services to attract users, such as "interconnect the stars" and "online every day. In this way, with four WAN-port broadband routers, users can apply for multiple types of broadband access at the same time, such as China Telecom, China Netcom, and long-width, so that they can enjoy more special services. Therefore, both two WAN ports and three or even four WAN ports have their users.

There are two or three of the survey results. Generally, 2 ~ The three are more suitable, so there is no need for them. Huawei 3Com expressed a similar view. On the one hand, the performance of the Multi-Wan port Broadband Router is affected by the performance of the router. The performance of the router is good enough to make the multi-Wan port play a role. On the other hand, multiple WAN ports can increase egress bandwidth, line backup, and provide more content services. In applications, generally 2 ~ Four WAN ports can meet your needs.

However, three or even four WAN ports are also a challenge to the performance of the Broadband Router. The primary problem is that ultra-many Wan-port broadband routers have high requirements on the performance of the router's hardware, but there is still a lack of high-performance processors on the market, for example, Intel has launched a high-performance network processor based on Intel Xscale technology, with a clock speed of up to 266 ~ 533 MHz, it is more than enough to build four WAN port broadband routers. How many WAN ports are most suitable? Or is it best to see what the user needs? It is reasonable to exist. If there are still user needs for broadband routers with three, four, or more WAN ports, these products will naturally have value. Of course, multiple WAN ports mean a higher price. As long as users can accept the price, the problem will not exist.
