Build your own "Cloud" (1)-concept, layout, and platform Selection

I like the concept of "Cloud. Enterprises have "Clouds" and multinational service providers have "Clouds" across the world. Therefore, in a small scope, they should also have a "home cloud" in their own homes"

What is "cloud?

To put it bluntly, it is a server that maintains a networked State. Anytime, anywhere, as long as necessary, as long as you can connect to the Internet, log on to the server, and obtain the required information from the above-this is even the use of "Cloud.

Who needs "Home cloud "?

Not everyone needs their own home clouds, but if you are just like me, you don't have to store all the information in a place you don't know, or if you don't want to pay ten dollars a month for hosting, you should consider setting up your own home cloud.

Prerequisites for building a "home cloud"

To sum up, a "home cloud" should be a home server and be able to access and download the above information from the Internet. Therefore, to build a "family cloud", you must possess these things:

1. A general old computer does not need to be well configured, especially the video card, but the memory requirements are relatively high)

2. A stable enough router should be able to set port ing and so on

3. A reasonable "Cloud" platform is the operating system)

Server hardware selection:

Take my own as an example. Except for the hard disk, my servers are all pieced together by old computer parts. However, it is not too backward because the company has eliminated them ).

CPU: Intel quad-core Q9300, memory: 8 GB 2x4 GB) DDR2

Not all users need such high configurations. If I have read my previous articles on Windows Home Server, you will find that the system is more than enough for the configuration of Ben 3.

But I have higher requirements here, so 8 GB memory is required.

As for the hard disk size, I added up to 6 new and old hard disks and 3 were useless). The total capacity reached 6 TB and RAID 1 was used for security protection, so the actual capacity was only 3 TB)

Why are there so many? My work computer basically does not need hard disk space when I have a server. An 80 GB system is enough.

Cloud Platform selection:

That is, the operating system. I like Linux. Naturally, I have nothing to say, but my "Cloud" is centered on Home Server 2011, So I basically focus on Microsoft products and I like Server 2012 very much)

Because the Server configuration is not bad, I think there is still room to do other things, such as running an SQL Server and hanging a VPN and DNS, in addition to running Home Server 2011.

Under this assumption, I chose Windows Hyper-V as the basic server platform. That is to say, I plan to use Hyper-V to run multiple server systems, and each system only performs relatively independent tasks.

Of course, it is not impossible for an operating system to do everything in the evening. However, this is not a practice that is favored by the current era of virtual technology. Why? 1. Conflicts may occur when multiple tasks are processed in the same operating system. 2. Once the system is damaged, the loss is not just a function. 3. easy to manage.

Finally, my "Cloud" layout is basically set:

1. master Server: Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V

2. First Virtual Server: Windows Home Server 2011

3. Second virtual Server: Windows Server 2008 and 2012 are all supported, but I used 2012)

4. Third virtual server: For Linux testing)

5. not yet determined
