For a large module, the Cognos component mainly includes three parts:
Cognos Powerplay Transformation Server: Converts a data source to a data cube.
Cognos Powerplay Enterprise Server: Presents data cubes in OLAP analysis and OLAP reports;
Cognos ReprotNet Server: Responsible for database-based data query, report creation, dashboard creation, report/dashboard display, etc.
The functions of each component are described as follows:
Cognos Powerplay Transformation ServerPart:
Cognos Transformation Server is a back-end OLAP data extraction and conversion engine (backend Service) used to extract source data to form a data cube. In Windows, it is combined with the front-end design interface Cognos Transformer. in UNIX versions, it is separated from the front-end model design interface and accepts scheduling from command lines or clients.
Cognos Impromptu: Mainly used to connect to the database to form a data source definition (to generate an IQD file)
Cognos Transformer: extracts data from the source database according to the data source definition. It provides a graphical model design interface on the Win interface for developers to design model debugging models. In UNIX, it is called Cognos Powerplay Transformer UNIX Client, added control menus for servers in the design field.
Cognos Powerplay Enterprise ServerPart:
Powerplay Enterprise Server: a Server that displays cubes on the WEB or Client and provides OLAP and report interfaces. It is the core of the entire Cognos OLAP application.
PowerConnect: The connection interface between Cognos Powerplay Enterprise Server and a third-party data cube. Through this interface, third-party data cubes such as MSOLAP, corner stone, IBM DB2 OLAP, sap r/3 BW can be displayed through Cognos.
Cognos Upfront: The portal interface provided by Cognos Powerplay Enterprise Server, which allows you to customize the appearance and functions.
Cognos ReprotNet ServerPart
Cognos ReprotNet Server: the core Server module that is responsible for querying, reporting, and designing, creating, and displaying dashboards.
Cognos Framework Manager: defines metadata used by the Cognos ReprotNet Server, including table structure, table connection, global filtering conditions, virtual views, and business ing.
Cognos Connection: A portal interface provided by the Cognos ReprotNet Server with rich functions. It allows you to customize content, layout, appearance, and functions.
Cognos Access ManagerPart
Access Manager: security management module of all Cognos products. It is the foundation of Cognos security and the core module of Cognos security.
LDAP Server: usually uses the Netscape/iPlanet Directory Server provided by Cognos with the product, or provided by a third party to save Cognos security information.
Cognos Powerplay ClientPart
Cognos Powerplay Client: Win Client of Cognos Powerplay Enterprise Server. It is a powerful OLAP report production tool used to create reports and publish reports to Cognos Powerplay Enterprise Server.
