Since Windows 95, Microsoft has stored configuration information for Windows systems in a database named registry. It is the core of managing all hardware and software in the Widnows system. It contains the configuration files of each computer user and important information about the system hardware, installed programs, and attribute settings. Therefore, registry Errors often cause system crashes, so it is particularly important to keep the Registry healthy. So how can we ensure the registry is "healthy? The old method is backup and recovery. 1. Windows 9x registry backup and recovery 1) Use Scanreg to back up/restore the Registry

The System automatically scans the Registry during startup, and packs the registry, Win. ini, and System. ini into rb00 ?. Cab, which is stored in the C: \ Windows \ sysbckup directory. If an error occurs, it is automatically repaired. During system operation, you can also check the registration table. The registration software for the registration table is scanreg.exeand scanregw.exe for Windows. The corresponding version is automatically started if you enter "Scanreg. Click Start> Run. In the open dialog box, enter Scanrge and click OK. The program scans the registry and displays the scan result. If the registry has an error, you will be prompted whether to perform automatic repair. If you do not back up the registry, you can make it automatically repaired. If it is normal and has not been backed up today, the program will prompt you to back up.

When the registry is wrong, it cannot be repaired automatically and cannot be accessed to Windows, you can run Scanreg/Fix in DOS to Fix it. In this way, the Registry repair failure may be caused by loading wrong modules or applications and virus intrusion through the initialization program System. ini and Win. ini during Automatic startup.

After you back up the system registry using Scanreg, you must restore the system to a pure DOS environment in real mode. Enter Scanreg/restore at the DOS prompt, and Scanreg checks the Registry first, then several files are displayed to provide the selection and make sure that the backup is considered normal for recovery. Dosscanscanreg.exe has three functions. Its parameters are as follows:

BACKUP -- BACKUP Registry
RESTORE -- RESTORE the Registry
FIX -- FIX the Registry

2) use Regedit to back up/restore the Registry

In addition to configuration modification, the Registry Editor also provides an important function, that is, to back up and restore the registry.

Registry backup

Run regedit to open the registry editor window. Open the "Registry" → "Export Registry File" menu command, and pop up the "Export Registry File" dialog box 6 ). Select the path and name of the Registry backup file, and whether to save all or only one branch of the Registry. After setting the settings as needed, click "save" to complete registry backup.

Registry Restoration

Open Registry Editor and Run registry → import registry file. The "Import Registry File" dialog box is displayed. 7 ). Find the exported registry backup file and click "open" to restore the Registry. A prompt box appears, click "OK", and restart the computer.

3) Use Registry Editor to restore

If you have backed up the registry before a registry error, you can also use regedit in the DOS environment to restore it. The procedure is as follows:
Start the computer with the boot disk, enter the Windows directory, and type "regedit/C *. reg ", where *. reg is the backup registry file name, and then restart the computer to make the new registry take effect.

Note: This method is very slow, so everyone must be patient. If it is aborted halfway, it may damage the current registration file and cause the computer to fail to start.

2. Windows 2000 registry Restoration

Windows 2000 registry is divided into two parts, but contains multiple files. The user configuration file is saved in the user name directory under the root directory "users and Settings", including the Ntuser. dat and Ntuser. ini hidden files and Ntuser. log files. The System configuration file is located in "system32 \ config" in the Windows 2000 System directory, including Default, Software, System, and Appevent. evt, Secevent. evt, Sysevent. multiple hidden files such as evt and their corresponding log files and. sav file. These registry files cannot be opened using other tools when running Windows 2000, which is different from System. dat and User. dat in Windows 9x.

To completely back up the Registry in windows, enter "regedit" in the "run" box to open the Registry Editor and open the "Registry" → "Export Registry File" command, select the export range to all, and then provide the path and name of the backup registry file. To restore the registry, click "Import Registry File" under the "Registry" menu and select the corresponding Registry backup file on the disk.

If you only need to save a root key or a primary key, you can use WINNT \ system32 \ regedt32.exe. First, select the primary key or subkey to save, and then click the "Save item" command under the "Registry" menu, in the pop-up "Save items" dialog box, enter the name of the Registry file to be saved. The extension "reg" is recommended for future management.

Because Windows 2000 is a real multi-user operating system, when saving some primary keys or subkeys, because the Users performing operations are different, or the primary key or subkey is being used by the system, A warning is displayed, for example, "the permission is insufficient and the item cannot be saved. If you are an Administrator, you can use the "permission" command under the "Security" menu to grant "Full Control" permissions to users of these primary keys or subkeys, then you can save the item.
