IP configuration tools Where did you go?

Windows 95/98/me provides a Winipcfg.exe tool to easily check IP network details, but Windows XP

This tool is no longer available. Some cable modem (Cabel modem) requires the user to provide the MAC address of the network card, without the winipcfg, where to find the MAC address?

From the Start menu, open the attachment → system tools → system information (figure). Oddly, the MAC address is hidden in the component → network → adapters section, not the Internet Settings section, which provides information about IE browsers. Unfortunately, the data provided in System information, including IP addresses, are not allowed to be modified.

In addition, Windows XP has a command line tool ipconfig similar to winipcfg. Choose Run from the Start menu, enter "cmd" and press ENTER, execute ipconfig/all on the command line and see the MAC address (but here the MAC address is called "Physical Addresses"). Use the ipconfig/release and/renew options to release or reassign IP addresses.

Why can't I save a JPEG

Sometimes, the Web page is clearly a JPEG graphics, but whether the use of IE 6 image toolbar, or the right mouse click graphics and then choose "Save the picture as", ie only provides a format to save the graphics option--bmp file. BMP format greatly increased the size of the file, and then the JPEG conversion to BMP is no help to improve the quality of the picture, if you want to use it on your own web page, or forward to friends, the best choice of course is the original JPEG format.

The reason why IE does not allow pictures in JPEG format is simple--its temporary folder is full. In IE, select the menu tool →internet option, select Delete File on the General tab, and then click OK. Try again when you're done, IE allows you to save the JPEG image.

Where are the unread messages hidden?

When you start Windows XP, sometimes the Welcome screen tells you that there are xx unread messages, and that you are not connected to the Internet at all, even if your inbox is empty. What is this all about?

Click on the link to unread messages on the Welcome screen to find out which mail accounts Windows XP is called Unread Mail. If you always see two unread messages on the Welcome screen, it's possible that they are automatically generated welcome messages in Outlook Express or Hotmail mail accounts.

Accounts that contain unread messages can also be found under the Hkey_current_usersoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionunreadmail key. If you don't want XP to keep track of unread emails from an email account, simply delete the email account here, and if XP thinks that an account has a new email and actually doesn't, just set the corresponding message count key to 0.

Create a message Expirydays subkey below UnreadMail and set it to 0 to prevent the XP welcome screen from displaying unread messages. However, it is not convenient to modify the registry, with TweakUI modification is simple and safe. Install and start TweakUI, select Logon→unread Mail, and clear the show Unread Mail on Welcome screen option.

Reinstall IE 6 from the installation disk

Since Windows XP was born, IE has not been upgraded, so you now have XP on IE 6 is currently the latest ie--this may be the "Add or Remove Programs" list can not find the reason for IE browser, but in other versions of Windows, add or Remove programs will provide repair functionality, Occasionally there is some use.

XP's system File Protection feature covers some of IE's most important files, so you won't need to fix ie a lot. However, if your IE does not behave correctly, and XP's system File Protection function is powerless, then you will need to reinstall IE. Even if you use broadband, downloading the entire IE is still not an easy task, but you can reinstall IE 6 from the XP installation CD.

Put the XP installation CD in the CD drive and run the following command from the Start menu: Rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132%windir%infie.inf. If this command is not valid, start Registry Editor regedit and find hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftactivesetupinstalledcomponents{89820200- ecbd-11cf-8b85-00aa005b4383}, change the value of the key from 1 to 0,XP will automatically start installing IE.
