First, uninstall the less common components

XP defaults to installing some system components to the operating system, and a large portion of these components is not available to you at all, and friends who don't have enough hard disk space can also consider uninstalling them in Add/remove Windows components. But some of these components XP is hidden by default, and you can't find them in the Add/Remove Windows components, when you can do this: Use Notepad to open the \windows\inf\sysoc.inf file, use the Find/Replace function to put the file "hide" All characters are replaced with null. This removes the hidden attributes of all components, when you run the Add-remove program after you save the disk, you will see a lot more options that you didn't see, delete the components that you didn't use, such as Internat Messenger Service, fax service, Windows Messenger, code table, etc. Approximately 50MB of space can be freed.

II. compressing NTFS drives, files, or folders

If your hard disk is using an NTFS file system, you can also consider enabling NTFS compression. Right-click the drive you want to compress-properties-general-compress the disk to conserve disk space, and then click OK to select the options you want in confirm attribute changes. This will save about 20% of your hard disk space.

Third, delete system backup files

We can enter Sfc.exe/purgecache in the Start menu's Run box, and then run it, the function of which is to immediately clear the Windows File Protection file cache, releasing the space it occupies, nearly 300M.

Four, H except the input method

For many users, Windows XPT system with the input method is not all suitable for their use, such as imjp8_1 Japanese Input method, Imkr6_1 input method, if not, we can delete it. The input method is located in the \windows\ime\ folder and takes up 88M of space.

Five, turn off System Restore

The System Restore function takes a long time and consumes a lot of hard disk space. It is therefore necessary to manually set it to reduce the amount of hard disk usage.

Open the System Properties dialog box, select the System Restore option, and select the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box to turn off System Restore. You can also restore only the disk or partition on which the system is located. Select the partition on which the system is located, click the Configure button, and in the dialog box that pops up, cancel the "Turn off System Restore on this drive" option and set the amount of disk space used for System Restore.

VI. clearance of system temporary files

The system's temporary files are typically stored in two locations: a temp folder under a Windows installation directory and a Y:\Documents and Settings\ username \local Settings\Temp folder (Y: The partition where the system is located). The files in both locations can be deleted directly.

XP will automatically back up the hardware driver, but after the hardware driver installation is correct, the general change of hardware is not likely, so you can also consider the deletion of this backup, the file is located in the \windows\driver cache\i386 directory, The name is Driver.cab, you can delete it directly, usually this file is 74M.

Eight, turn off hibernation support

The hibernate feature takes up a lot of hard disk space, if you use less you might want to close the altogether, close the method Yes: Open Control Panel, double-click Power Options, select the Hibernate tab in the Power Options Properties dialog box that pops up, and cancel the Enable Hibernate checkbox.

Ix. Clear Internet Temporary files

A lot of hard disk space will be saved by regularly deleting a large number of temporary Internet files that are generated when surfing the Internet.

Open IE Explorer and choose Internet Options from the Tools menu. In the pop-up dialog box, select the General tab, click the Delete File button in the Temporary Internet Files column, and in the Delete File dialog box, select the Delete all offline content check box, and click OK button.
