Windows Server 2008 has Windows Reliability and Performance Monitor, enabling it technology to freely gain the tools to easily monitor and analyze system performance and reliability. (Note: In some pre-release versions of Windows Server 2008, this feature is referred to as the Windows Performance Diagnostics console). Windows Reliability and Performance Monitor is a plug-in for MMC that combines a few previously independent tools to include performance logs with reminders, server performance consultants, and system monitors. It provides an easy-to-use graphical interface for the client of performance data sets and time tracking services. It also includes a reliability monitor, another MMC plug-in that tracks changes and contrasts these modifications to system reliability, and provides an intuitive view of the relationships between them.
Windows Reliability and Performance Monitor is the tool that provides IT technicians and network administrators with the information they need to effectively manage the network. In order to view the status in real-time resource viewing, the console must be run as a part of the Administrators group. To create a data collector, configure logs, or view reports, the console must run as part of the Administrators group or the Performance Log user group.
New monitoring Features
The following are the key features of the new Windows Reliability and Performance Monitor that Windows Server 2008 contains:
The Data Collector
The wizard and template used to create the log
The Resource View
"Reliability Monitor
"A unified property configuration for all data collection, including scheduling
"User-friendly diagnostics report
Data Collector
Data collectors are an important new feature in Windows Reliability and Performance Monitor, which divides data collection into groups to form reusable artifacts that are suitable for different performance and monitoring conditions. For administrators who manage multiple servers, this capability saves time defining data collector definitions once the data that needs to be monitored is identified and data is used on multiple servers. The Windows Reliability and Performance Monitor also includes a default data collector template to enable administrators to immediately start collecting performance data for a server role or monitoring scenario.
