Because Kerberos is a perfect authentication system solution in a domain environment, passwords are critical for landing domains and accessing resources only, and it is risky to have accounts with related resource permissions using weak passwords or automatic landings. Using a weak password or setting up an automatic login may cause bad users or malicious programs to guess or retrieve passwords. Obtaining an automatic login password is fairly easy because the password is stored in the registry in plain text format, and the authorized user group can remotely read specific registry keys that store this value. Therefore, you can use this setting only if the security of your computer is truly reliable and you are sure that untrusted users cannot view the registry remotely. Even if you set permissions on the protection of a registry key, an illegal user gets the ticket by automatically landing without a password, and you can do whatever you want with the resource object that you can manipulate.

Windows XP system set up automatic logon

Here's how to get XP to automatically log on to the steps,

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate the following registry key:
Hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windowsnt/currentversion/winlogon
3. With your account name and password, double-click the "DefaultUserName" entry, type your user name, and then click OK.
4. Double-click the "DefaultPassword" item, type the password under the Value data box, and then click OK.
If there is no DefaultPassword value, the value is created. To do this, follow these steps:
1. In Registry Editor, click Edit, click New, and then click String Values.
2. Type DefaultPassword as the numeric name, and then press Enter.
3. Double-click the newly created item, and then type the password in the Value data box.
If the DefaultPassword string is not specified, Windows XP automatically changes the value of the AutoAdminLogon registry key from 1 (True) to 0 (False) to disable the AutoAdminLogon feature.
5. Double-click the "AutoAdminLogon" item, type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
If there is no AutoAdminLogon entry, the item is created. To do this, follow these steps:
1. In Registry Editor, click Edit, click New, and then click String Values.
2. Type AutoAdminLogon as the numeric name, and then press Enter.
3. Double-click the newly created item, and then type 1 in the Value data box.
6. Quit Registry Editor.
7. Click Start, click Restart, and then click OK.

When your computer restarts and Windows XP starts, you can log on automatically.
To skip the automatic logon process and log on as another user, hold down the Shift key after you log off or after Windows XP restarts. Note that this procedure applies only to first sign-on. To enforce this setting for future logoff, the administrator must set the following registry key:
Hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windowsnt/currentversion/winlogon
Value: ForceAutoLogon
Type: REG_SZ
Data: 1

On computers that are not joined to a domain, you can also enable automatic logon without editing the registry in Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and Microsoft Windows XP Professional. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type Control Userpasswords2, and then click OK.
