Windows Vista trial notes

I have read a lot of promotional materials about Windows Vista, and I am already moving forward. In order to conduct a compatibility test today, we finally get a glimpse of it.

The installed version is vista 5365. I think this version is much better than the previous version 5231 I used to test. In addition, the sub-configuration used today is not bad. The CPU is 2.66 GB, and the memory is 512 MB, the key is to have a high-end graphics card with 128 M memory, so that aero and flip3d can be used to their full potential. It is really cool! The following describes some of my trial experiences.

 I. Chinese support

Vista has better support for Chinese than XP and earlier versions. After you change the default language to Chinese, you can find that the system font contains the Imitation Song and simplified Chinese characters, these two fonts are not included in the XP version. However, it seems that the default Chinese font is flat, and it is not as comfortable as the original regular expression.

 Ii. Resource occupation

The installed Vista occupies more than 500 mb of memory at startup. However, I feel that after optimization, it can be greatly reduced. After stopping a lot of services that I think are unnecessary, Vista only occupies about 280 MB of memory at startup. When Visual Studio or SQL server is not used, running some common programs can be maintained below 500 mb, and the process is still smooth. In this way, in the future, my current version can also run on Vista steadily, but my current display is only 32 m, aero and flip3d are afraid it is enough.

 3. Driver Support

All the hardware drivers of my machine can be installed smoothly. Only one camera prompts "driver not certified" when installing the driver, after selecting "continue", the installation can be successful.

However, there was a major problem when installing the virtual optical drive. I used daemon 3.46. When the installation process was over, the system continued to prompt that the driver was not authenticated, if it wasn't the case, I continued. As a result, the black screen of the system suddenly crashed and the system could no longer be started normally, and the security mode would not work. It is not until "Last correct configuration" is used to return to the original state. By the way, when other programs are installed next, the Windows Installer prompts that the installation of daemon is suspended. Do you want to cancel the installation? Well, I still cannot uninstall it, Because daemon is not visible in the installed program, so click "yes" here.

Another cause is the installation of the virtual printer. When using the virtual printer, the following dialog box is displayed, but the usage is not affected:

When you click "why does this happen", the following prompt is displayed:

This dialog box appears if the background printing service of the virtual printer needs to interact with the user. However, this situation is quite common, because when a virtual printer generates an output file, it often prompts the user to select an output file name. If this is the case, if the service in Vista needs to interact with the user, it may have to be modified.

 Iv. Windows Search Service

When I tried it, I found that explorer was very slow when opening the folder. The process found a werfault (which is probably the case, but I cannot remember it), which took a lot of CPU, I found it a collection of errors. I still felt that something went wrong. I searched for a problem with the Windows Search Service and found that it was always failed to start. So I simply disable it and it's much faster to open the folder all at once, so I almost don't feel the delay.

 5. Strange DNS Problems

Another phenomenon that cannot be solved is about the DNS service. The host I used today is connected to the Internet through a VPN. Before using a VPN connection, you can use the DNS settings of the local connection for normal DNS resolution. However, when a VPN is connected to the Internet, the DNS becomes invalid. This is the case with repeated attempts.

However, I was surprised by the NSLookup Result, because NSLookup can perform DNS resolution very quickly without any problems. However, when I ping a domain name address or use the domain name address in IE, it will fail. Using the diagnostic tool provided by ie 7.0, the results show that the DNS server can be connected, but the resolution cannot be successfully executed due to some problems on port 53, which is strange and cannot be found. The time was too short, so I had to use NSLookup to check the IP address everywhere, and then enter the IP address in IE to get enough. It was really depressing.

This is another interesting issue. When I use NSLookup to find the IP address of the blog garden, after entering it in IE, the error "The accessed blog does not exist" may occur. You can try it on your own and think about it. Why?
