Most Windows Server administrators have smartphones that use smartphones to access various remote tools. This is very convenient, but the smart phone is not the easiest way, such as Remote Desktop connection ).
To this end, it is best to remotely manage any Windows server using a smartphone, instead of using common desktop tools. The Administrator may not need to use each function. Generally, it is only the most important, such as resetting the invalid application pool or the website allocated on demand.
To solve these problems, Microsoft programmer Sukesh Ashok Kumar has created a tool. This tool minimizes remote management through smartphones. IIS Mobile management IIS7 Mobile Admin) This project runs on IIS as a website. It allows administrators to collect basic information and change settings, all of which are completed in a web browser. This tool is written using the managed APIMicrosoft. Web. Administration of IIS 7. NET. No custom code is used to access IIS itself.
Currently, IIS 7 Mobile management IIS7 Mobile Admin has only a few features:
- Lists all available application pools in the system. By clicking the name of a program pool, you can list long-running requests, instruct applications running in the pool, or reuse the application we mentioned.
- List all available sites in the system. Here you can display the site configuration, that is, all bindings to the current site) or start/stop the site.
- Search for application pools or sites by name. If you only want to know all the sites or application pools in the system, you can directly click "Search" without providing any search parameters ".

To set up an IIS mobile Web application, you only need to extract the project to its directory and set a license on the file to allow access by IIS users and add the directory to IIS as a new site. Other methods for running IIS7 Mobile Admin are to use other projects from Kumar through independent programs: IIS Hostable Web Core (HWC ). For most administrators, the IIS Site is still valid.
Given that this tool allows all users to access the internal configuration elements of IIS over the Internet by default, administrators should take some basic security measures when using this tool:
Enable HTTPS and basic authentication to protect the site where IIS7 Mobile Admin is located. Do not allow access to the site without encryption or user creden.
Run the IIS7 Mobile Admin site in a separate program pool. This enhances security and reduces vulnerabilities caused by program pool crashes or stops.
The project is hosted on CodePlex and released through Microsoft Public License. It also welcomes feedback and new features from developers, and the software can be used or fully reused in its project for free, but must be under the same license terms.
