Serv-U is a widely used FTP server software. It supports all Windows series such as 3x, 9x, ME, NT, and 2 K. You can set multiple FTP servers, set logon user permissions, log on to the main directory, and set the space size. The functions are complete. It provides complete security features, supports SSl FTP transmission, and supports SSL encrypted connections between multiple Serv-U and FTP clients to protect your data security.

◎ Example in this tutorial: assume that the local IP address is "192.168.0.48" and you want to create an available FTP server named "ftp.bbc.com.

◎ Installation and basic settings in Section 1: shows you how to download and install Serv-U and how to create the first available FTP server.

◎ Section 2 MANAGER: basic understanding of Serv-U manager; this article is still being supplemented. You can view logs and create groups.

◎ Section 3 Account for user attributes: understanding of the Account option. You can change the user account, password, and home directory.

◎ Section 4 common user attributes: understanding of General (common) options. You can set the maximum logon information file and upload/download speed.

◎ Section 5 "Directory Access" of user attributes: understanding of the Dir Access option. Allows you to access directories.

◎ End of user attributes: understanding of other options. IP addresses that can be set to allow or deny access, and FTP space restrictions.

Section 1 installation and basic settings of Serv-U

I. Installation

Expand the compressed file “servu3b7.zip.exe and execute “setup.exe "to start installation. Select the default option for all. After the installation is complete, you do not need to restart. You can view the related files directly in "Start> program> Serv-u ftp Server. For example:

2. Create the first available FTP Server

1. For example, if the local IP address is "192.168.0.48", a DNS record for the domain name "ftp.bbc.com" has been established.

2. Open the Serv-U manager. Select "Serv-U Administrator", that is, "Setup Wizard" (setting Wizard) appears ). This wizard helps you easily complete basic settings, because it is recommended to be used. Select "Next" (Next step ). For example:

3. Follow these steps in the Installation Wizard:

(1) IP address: Enter "192.168.0.48 ". (This item is blank if dynamic IP addresses are used or no valid IP addresses exist .)

(2) Domain name (Domain name): Enter "ftp.bbc.com ".

(3) Install as system server (to be installed as a system server): Select "Yes ".

(4) Allow anonymous access (Do You Want To accept anonymous logon): You can select this option based on your needs. For example, select "Yes ".

⑸ Anonymous home directory (anonymous main directory): enter (or select) a home directory for anonymous users to log on.

Unlock Lock anonymous users in to their home directory (Lock the user in the selected home directory): whether to set the home directory in the previous step as the root directory of the user; select "Yes ".

Creating Create named account (do you want to Create another account): Check whether a Common Logon user account is created. Select Yes ".

Your Account login name (User login name): The name of a common user Account. For example, enter "nanshan ".

Login Password: Set the user Password. Because the entered password is displayed in plain text (rather than *), only once is entered.

Home directory: enter (or select) The Home directory of the user.

Unlock Lock anonymous users in to their home directory (Lock the user in the main directory): Select "Yes ". Administrative Account admin privilege (Account Management privilege): Generally, the default value "No privilege" is used ).

Complete the setting by selecting "Finish. For example:

4. We can see that an FTP server has been created, with the server address "ftp.bbb.com". There are two users under it. One is the Anonymous user "Anonymous" and the password is blank; one is the normal user "nanshan", whose password is the content entered in the Wizard.

5. Basic permissions. For example, if you select "nanshan" user in the left-side pane, the settings window, as shown in, appears in the right-side pane. Select "Dir Access" to set whether the user has "Read" and "Write" operations on the file in its main directory (that is, "Path), "Append" (write and add), "Delete" (Delete), "Execute" (Execute); whether to have "List" for the directory (display the List of files and directories), "Create" (new directory), "Remove" (modify directory, including Delete, move, rename), and "Inherit" (whether the above permission includes the directory tree below it) and so on.

3. Use this FTP Server

1. logon format under DOS. For example, "ftp ftp.bbc.com ".

2. logon format in the browser. Such as "ftp://ftp.bbc.com ".

3. Set the FTP client application software. For example, in CuteFTP, for example:

(3) Other General projects are related to maintaining server security.

4. Activity (Activity status ):

(1) Users: displays information such as the IP address of the user currently logged on and the current working status. We recommend that you select "Auto reload" (Auto refresh ). If you select a User, right-click it and select "Kill User" to kick it out of the server.

(2) Blocked IPs (Blocked IP address): This is used to temporarily prohibit some IP addresses from accessing the system. Click "+" on the toolbar to add the IP addresses that are temporarily forbidden and the total time of Logon prohibition (calculated from the increase ). The list shows the banned IP address, the complete Domain Name of the corresponding computer, and the time (in seconds) to unban the IP address. Right-click the list to delete the prohibited IP addresses.

(3) Session Log (System Log): records all operation traces and error messages that Log on (or attempt to Log on) to the local machine.

2. "Domains" (Domain Name) attributes

1. ftp.bbc.com (the selected FTP server name): You can modify the domain name, IP address, and port number.

2. Settings: and IP addresses that allow or prohibit logon.

(1) General/Max no. of Users (maximum number of Users): You can set the maximum number of Users allowed to log on to the FTP server at the same time.

(4) IP Access/Rule (Rule): Enter the specified IP address or IP address range. Accept a single IP address, such as "192.168.0.88", accept a range of IP addresses such as "192.168.0.4-192.168.0.11", accept wildcards such as "192.168.0. *", and accept a single IP address such as "192.168.0.1 ?" And so on. "Add" is "Add", and "Remove" is "delete.

Delayed Message (message): Some prompt display information can be changed here, such as "Signon Message file" (start broadcasting) and "Server offline" (the Server is not working) "No anonymos access" (Anonymous logon is not accepted.

3. Activity (Activity status ):

(1) Users: displays the Users logging on to the server and their statuses. We recommend that you select "Auto reload" (Auto refresh ). (2) Domain Log (System Log): records all operation traces and error messages that Log on (or attempt to Log on) to the server.

4. Groups (Group ):

(1) Using Groups (group), you can create one or more directories that determine attributes (read and write) and control permissions (grant or prohibit access from certain IP addresses) in advance, in the future, when we create new users and need to use these directories, we just need to add them directly. We don't need to repeat the settings. In this case, setting up a group can greatly reduce the setting workload.

(2) create a New Group: Select "Group> right-click> New Group", enter the Group name in "Group name", and click "finish. For example:

(3) set "Dir Access" (directory Access permission): Select "Add" (Add) here to Add the target directories (multiple directories), and then set the Access permissions for them one by one. For specific settings of this project, see the relevant content after this tutorial.

(4) and "IP Access" (IP Control): For specific settings of this item, see the relevant content in the forefront of this article.

Replica of the replica group: You can copy the created group like a copy file. Select the Group name, right-click the Group, and select "Copy Group" to Copy the Group. Really good function! ^-^ 1 2
