Hard drive bad track repair strategy

For logical bad channels, we can fix them. For physical bad channels, we should adopt an isolated approach to minimize losses and prevent further spread of bad channels. I have seen some people say in the newspaper that a special software can be used to repair physical bad sectors. The most terrible thing is that many people are superstitious about low-end hard drives. Low-level formatting refers to dividing a blank disk into a cylindrical and track, and then dividing the track into several sectors, each sector is divided into the ID, GAP, and DATA of the identification part. Low-level formatting can only be completed in the DOS environment, and can only be performed on-block hard disks, but cannot support a single partition. Some bad magnetic channels and bad sectors can be repaired through low-level formatting, but physical scratches on the real hard disk surface cannot be performed on the hard disk bad sectors. This only uses various methods to mark the location of Bad Sectors, in this way, the operating system is not used, so as to prevent extended Bad Sectors and extend the hard disk usage. In particular, low-level formatting is a kind of consumable operation, which has a negative impact on the hard disk life. Therefore, if not necessary, users should try to avoid low-level formatting hard disks.

For logical bad sectors, we usually use the tools provided by the operating system and some dedicated hard disk check tools to find and repair the Hard Disk Bad Sectors. For example, Windows's Scandisk disk scanner is the most commonly used tool to find bad hard disk logical channels, and our common Format commands cannot fix any bad hard disk channels. In Windows, select the hard drive letter to be processed in "My Computer" and select "attribute ", select "check error status" in the "Tools" button that appears, select "comprehensive check" in "Scan type", and tick "Automatic repair error ", then click Start. If the system does not scan the disk at startup or cannot enter the Windows system, you can also use A floppy disk or a cd boot disk to start the computer and run the drive letter, as shown in ": run Scandisk *: (Note: * indicates the hard drive letter to be scanned). Press enter and repair the hard drive partition to be scanned and repaired.

However, if it is a hard disk physical bad track, do not try to use these methods to repair the hard disk bad track. On the contrary, use various tools to scan repeatedly, it is to force multiple reads and writes to the physical bad areas of the hard disk, which will inevitably increase the number of bad channels and spread. The correct method is to use the following method to decisively isolate the existing bad channels. This is a very helpless method, but if a 20 GB hard disk is blocked for 15 GB due to bad channels, there is always 5 GB space available. If this is not done, the final result is that the entire hard disk is decommissioned.

Hard Disk Bad Track repair method 1: Use PartitionMagic and other disk software to complete the work

For example, if PartitionMagic is used as the partitioning software, use the "check" command in PartitionMagic4 or the disk scanner in Windows to scan the disk and determine the location of the bad cluster on the hard disk, then, select "Advanced/badSectorRetest" under the Operation menu, divide the hard disk of the bad cluster into multiple partitions, and then hide the partition of the bad cluster to avoid misoperation in Windows, this function is implemented through the HidePartition menu item. This can also ensure the normal use of hard disks with severe bad sectors, and avoid the system from frequently reading and writing bad sectors to expand the area of Bad Sectors. However, this requires familiarity with the software and experience in computing hard disks, which is not easy for many people.

Solution 2: Use FDISK and FORMAT

The specific method is as follows: first, we need to find out the disk capacity. For a problematic disk, we should first use FDISK to divide it into a C disk and then FORMAT it with FORMAT, when encountering a bad block that cannot be repaired, the FORMAT always tries to fix the block, and the percentage is recorded. press CTRL + BREAK to forcibly terminate the task. Use the total disk capacity × percentage to obtain the normal disk capacity. Use FIDSK to draw a logical disk, estimate the approximate size of the following disk, which is about 10%, and then divide a logical disk. This small disk does not need to be formatted. After the total work is completed, it will be deleted, so that all the bad blocks will jump over. This may cause loss of some good paths, but it is not important for large-capacity hard disks, and the hard disks are more stable to use.

Method 3: Use a dedicated bad disk partition tool such as FBDISK

FBDISK is a software dedicated to discovering and isolating bad channels in DOS and re-partitioning. It only has one file, which is dozens of kb. The operation is very simple. first create a floppy disk that can be started to DOS, place FBDISK on the floppy disk, and use it to guide the system. Note that only one hard disk to be repaired can be mounted on the system, and connect it to the online drive. After entering DOS, as long as you can find the hard disk, you can run FBDISK. This applet will first scan the hard disk by track and then display the bad track, at the same time, it will estimate how long it will take to complete the overall scan. After all the scans are completed, the program will give you a new Partition Scheme Based on the scan results and bad track conditions, if you accept it, Press Y. Otherwise, your hard disk will not be processed. This software is good, but it may be a big deal. I once used it to scan a 10g hard disk and reported that only M can be used, but after I used method 2, but found nearly 2 GB of intact space. Therefore, you can use it as needed.

Another type of bad track looks terrible. In fact, it is well repaired. For example, if the system displays "TRACK 0 BAD, DISKUNUSABLE", it means "zero TRACK damage, "The Hard Disk cannot be used" or when scanning other hard disks with a disk scanner, the red "B" appears in the 0 sector ". As we all know, the hard disk sector is the most important part and cannot be used after damage. Generally, hard disks with such faults will be decommissioned. In fact, the rational use of some disk software to block the decommissioned 0 sector, and the replacement of 1 sector can bring back to life, such software such as Pctools9.0 and NU8.

Take Pctools9.0 as an example. If a 40 Gb hard disk fails, run the DE. EXE file in the Pctools9.0 directory after the computer is started. Select Drive from the main menu, Select Physical from Drivetype, Select by space, switch to Drives by pressing Tab, Select harddisk, and press OK to return to the main menu. Open the Select menu. PartitionTable is displayed. After you Select the table, information about the hard disk partition table is displayed. The hard disk has two partitions. Locate the partition C, which starts from the hard disk's 0 cylinder. Change the value 0 of the BeginningCylinder in the 1 partition to 1. Save the partition and exit. After restarting the computer, press Del to enter COMS settings and run "IDEAUTODETECT". You can see that CYLS is changed from 782 to 781. After saving and exiting, repartition and format the hard disk.
