First, go to disk management, but no hidden partitions are found. The hard disk model is WD800, that is, the nominal capacity is 80 GB, the actual capacity should be 74 GB, but only 66 GB can be seen in disk management, and only 66 GB can be seen in the next PQMagic, after reboot, enter the BIOS and you can only see the nominal capacity of 71 GB. Apparently, the manufacturers have done some work, and the space of 9 GB disappears out of thin air.
I asked Google to know that this technology is called HPA (reference). The principle is to set the maximum sector number for reading the hard disk somewhere on the hard disk, in this way, Windows and even the BIOS cannot read the content of a higher slice, thus completely hiding the slice. A tool named UlockHPA can be used to convert hidden partitions into common partitions.
After downloading UlockHPA, we found that the software can only run in pure DOS. This machine does not have a soft drive, nor does it support USB boot. There is no Win98 boot disc at hand. What should I do? Later, I found a software vFloppy, which can be used to create a virtual soft drive image, and then enable the system from the image to enter the pure DOS.
OK. The software used is ):
VFloppy 1.5
Start a floppy disk image in Windows 98
UlockHPA
The procedure is as follows:
Put the UlockHPA program in the root directory of the C drive (the C drive should be in FAT32 format );
Run vFloppy 1.5, select Windows 98 boot floppy disk image, and click "application" to create the boot image;
Restart. In the XP boot menu, select "start from virtual floppy disk" to go to DOS-only;
Go to disk C and run ulockhpa-D to delete the hidden partition;
Restart and press DEL to enter the BIOS. Check that the disk capacity has changed to 80 GB;
In Windows, right-click "my computer" and choose "manage" to open "disk management". You can see that the hard disk has more than 8 GB unformatted partitions;
Right-click the partition and choose "Change drive name and path" to delete the drive letter.
Next, you can use this partition to do what you want to do. I will use it as a hidden partition of the restore genie, and there will be more left.
