Windows 8.1 Optimizes the view of system files, and if we can make full use of the various file view functions provided by the system, the efficiency of file management and processing will be greatly improved.

  1. Book Indexing document reorganization

We must be very impressed with some of the key words on the back of the book! They generally arrange all the keywords in the order of 0~9 numbers and a~z letters so that when we look up a keyword, we can quickly narrow it down and quickly find the items we need. In fact, in Windows 8.1 Explorer, we can also take this approach to managing files.

Open a folder in File Explorer, switch to the View tab, click the Details button in the Layout group, and then select name from the group by list, so that we can immediately see that the list of files in Explorer is displayed numerically and alphabetically. Then to find a file, you can do at a glance.

(Figure 1: Reorganizing files by Book Keyword index)

Small tip:

Not only can we reorganize the list of files by book index, but the categories of indexes are not limited to file names. By using the GROUP by option, we can arrange files by our own grouping, such as by file generation and modification date, file type or size, file author, and so on. Groupings can be arranged in either ascending or descending order.

Small tips:

How do you revert to the original ungrouped mode after grouping? Files are grouped in either way, and a "none" option is added to the group by list, and selecting this option restores the files to an ungrouped arrangement.

  2. Vertical and horizontal combination screening reorganization

How do we filter if we only need to display a specific type of file in a folder and only need to display the file-specific property items?

First, the vertical filter. If we only want to display the TXT in the current folder, WPS, PDF, Doc and other categories of Office documents, all other types of files are blocked, we simply click on the list of files with detailed information on the "type" heading on its small arrow icon, and then from the Drop-down list of all the types of files we need to choose, So the eligible files are filtered out.

(Figure 2: Filtering filter files by type)

Then make a horizontal filter. Suppose we need to display 5 items of information, such as the name of the file, date modified, type, size, date created, and so on. At this point we need to right-click on the title bar of the file list, and then choose the item we want from the menu that pops up, and get rid of items we don't need. If you don't have the item you want in the list, click More, and the system lists more items to choose from.

Small tip:

The file list displays the increase or decrease of the property item, or it can be implemented from the Add Columns Drop-down list in the view → current view group. If you don't see the items you want in the list, you can use the Select column item to activate the Details display window to select more items.

  3. Folder View cloning reorganization

View files Everyone has his or her own different preferences. Older people may prefer to display pictures with oversized icons, and program designers may only care about the detailed list of pictures. The system provides the default display is only a fixed one, so when we open a different file, in order to switch to their favorite style, each time you need to set the style of the list repeatedly. So how do you unified the folder view style according to your personal preferences?

To do this, we can first select and open a sample folder and set the icon arrangement style to the style that you want, for example, set to "oversized icons." Then switch to the View tab page of the File Explorer window, click the Rightmost option button to open the Folder Options window, switch to the "View" tab, click the "Apply to Folder" button in the Folder view group, so that you can apply the style of the template folder to all of the same files. After you open the same folder again, the display mode of the boilerplate folder is extended.

(Figure 4: Extending the layout style with boilerplate folders)

Small tip:

In a list of files displayed in a detailed list, there are times when the file items are not displayed or are too wide to be wasted because the file item width is set unreasonably. You can automatically adjust the width of the item to the best width by double-clicking the split line between the two items. To adjust the width of all columns to the appropriate position at once, tap the "Resize all columns to fit" option in the View tab.

  4. Metro List View inverted reorganization

As you know, in the list of Windows 8.1 Metro interface programs, the first list of Metro applications is listed in the program view. The traditional applications that we have already known have been placed in the position of "standing back". So, if we're using a traditional list of apps and want to arrange them in the front, can we do that?

We can use the Group Policy Editor to complete the traditional program list and the Metro application list of large transposition. Right-click the Start button and click Run on the shortcut menu to enter the Gpedit.msc command and confirm. In the local Group Policy Editor, navigate to the user Configuration → admin templates → start menu and taskbar, and in the right window, locate the desktop application first in application view, double-click and click the Enabled button.

Tip: Summary view in the Start screen

In the Windows 8 Start screen, the summary view helps users search more quickly for the application they want to find. You can also arrange your application by group, which is very simple, right click on a program and the menu will let you specify the selected group. For small screens, this feature is very useful.

  5. Apply view space to expand the reorganization

In the Windows 8.1 Metro application List view, the default display space can also be compressed, the compressed display space will be more comfortable, the reorganization list will be able to accommodate more display items. To implement the application list space compression, simply click "Set → tile" in the floating panel on the right side of the Metro interface screen, and then place the "show more applications in application View" option switch to "yes".

Small tip:

Windows 8.1 supports the Metro application and the traditional Desktop window to form a split-screen view. Depending on the resolution of the display, the window can be displayed in 2 to 4 different screens. We simply activate the application list by the left side of the screen, and we can rearrange the application's split-screen arrangement by dragging.
