Many people wonder if programmers end up managing, and they should give up programming when they are middle-aged. After seeing this answer is very touched, try to translate out, there are inappropriate places to welcome the point.

I'll be 69 next week. I started programming from 1967. It's been 48 years now and has been written from COBOL to jquery. I've forgotten more programming languages than many programmers have encountered in their lifetimes. I'm going to take some projects on my own, because as an employee I'm a total workaholic, even when I'm more than 30 years old. I'm never going to do a traditional programming job that works 8 hours a day.

I have written 2 million or 3 million lines or 4 million lines of code, I think I have to at least write to ... The amount ... Forget it, it doesn't matter. It doesn't make much sense to write a lot of code, unless the code has a good impact on people you care about. (The original is: a positive impact on people I care about.) and "Silicon Valley" make world a better place is really similar)

One of the benefits of getting older is that I don't believe in two of ideas that have an idea that can change the world. I just want to do the work I should do, and then give the user a better product experience.

But an older programmer has a very obvious drawback. The world is changing very fast, and it's getting faster. 15 years ago, I devoted myself to C + + and then I mastered it. About 4 years ago, I began to indulge in jquery and learn how to mix jquery and C # together (Hook jquery and C #) to quickly implement a user interface. 3 years ago I retired from the company, so I started to focus on C # and addicted to WordPress. Now is Drupal (a framework for PHP). The trend is that learning something new is becoming more and more difficult for me. I am still trying to write a wordpress plugin with local storage and WEB workers, debugging these really makes me a little tired.

But what I really want to insist on is to constantly programming, do not stop, because I really love programming, in fact, I will only such a thing. Unlike interpersonal relationships and social networking, I've been trying to do this for the last more than 20 years.

So the left brain is programmed, and the right brain is used to deal with relationships that keep me in balance. It certainly works because I've been married to a beautiful woman for more than 40 years and I have a very good relationship with my three children.

I set myself a goal to write for at least 50 years (by June 2017). Then at the age of 70, he became the Mankind Project & New Warriors Training Adventure program co-leader. It's very challenging. A few years later you can come and see how I do.
