Introduction: This article is the first of five articles in a series. It provides you with new features in the Ibm®rational®application Developer V7.5 Portal Toolkit. Because this overview introduces V7.5 's improvements to previous versions, it is useful to know the previous versions of Rational application Developer V7.0, but that doesn't mean you have to be familiar with it.

Introduction

Ibm®rational®application Developer V7.5 is an end-to-end software lifecycle management tool. It provides features for design, development, testing, and deployment in an integrated environment. Portal Toolkit is also part of this collection of upgrade enhancements and enhancements that enable it to be compatible with Ibm®websphere®portal V6.1 features. These improvements improve the performance and availability of Portal Toolkit.

This article delves into how to combine the following new features introduced in the WebSphere portal V6.1 in the Rational application Developer V7.5 Portal Toolkit:

To run the WebSphere Portal V6.1 as a target: Configure local and remote servers as instance destinations WebSphere Portal V6.1.

Java™specification Request (JSR) 286 and Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) 2.0 support: Create a Java Portlet Specification 2.0 J SR portlet. These features support event and public assignment variables through the Event wizard and the Portlet Deployment descriptor editor.

Client side's programming model support: Gets the Portlet property settings in the base Portlet project.

Client-click Operation Support: User automatic code generation, which supports communication between portlets using client-click Operations (which will later be C2A).

Personal Label support: Use automatic code generation for the Person menu and expand the People menu by writing Java scripts.

Static page aggregation: Create a new HTML page or import a page that already has an HTML page as a static port. Publish or deploy a portal project that contains static pages.

Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax) Agents: HTTP proxies that support portal projects.

Friendly URL support feature: Assigns a friendly URL to the portal page in the portal-side development tool.

Portal Topics Support improvements: creating, editing WEB 2.0 portal topics. Edit the client aggregation (CSA) file.

These improvements help ensure that the technologies you use can keep pace with the rapid development of software development products.

New features Overview

This article only discusses the new features of Rational application Developer V7.5.

Server Runtime and server type

First, the WebSphere Portal V6.1 is treated as a target runtime. One of the main features of the Rational application Developer V7.5 is support for the new server runtime, server types, and stubs that are added to the WebSphere portal V6.1.
