IMS-based business applications

IMS multimedia subsystem is a complete solution that supports real-time And customizable multimedia services from the SIP service to. It supports running multiple sip sessions at the same time on a single terminal and creates a new data service, it will build a Unified IP-based application platform for all IP networks in the future, bring positive changes to the operator's network, and lay the foundation for new business development.

IMS business applications can be divided into three types: service applications based on SIP as, Osa-based, and SSF-based.

For the Osa application server, you can develop value-added services on the server based on standard APIs (such as parlay) without understanding the underlying network structure, which greatly shortens the business development cycle. The business capacity server between the S-CSCF and the Osa application server is equivalent to a gateway, which maps the signaling of the osa api and the ISC interface so that the business and control are independent of each other and realize the layered structure of the network.

The S-CSCF is connected to the business platform using a unified ISC interface. In the S-CSCF's view, the SIP application server, the OSA service capacity server, and the IM-SSF both perform the same interface behavior. A unified ISC interface allows various servers to access IMS to provide services for IMS.

Traditional smart services are connected to the network through the CAP/INAP protocol. To enable IMS users to continue to enjoy the convenience brought by traditional smart services, a functional entity is required between the SCP server and the S-CSCF to convert the CAP/INAP protocol and the SIP protocol, this function is done by the IM-SSF.

For the network control layer, no matter which application server is based, the same ISC interface behavior is executed. Therefore, in terms of business application type division, naturally, you can organize diverse application businesses into different business feature groups or feature capability groups. Based on these competency groups, it can support the operator's integrated network operation and business promotion to the greatest degree of flexibility. According to this model, IMS business applications are generally divided into the following types:

Message Service

This type of business is very familiar to users and is also bringing good benefits to operators. IMS message services give users more choices. When using message services, users can use other media, such as videos and sounds, at their own discretion and at a low cost, you can also flexibly Select Real-time or non-real-time services to communicate information.

Group business

IMS aggregates different communication media to provide users with new business experiences. IMS can also develop and combine services to provide group-based communication.

Multimedia call

IMS may not bring new users, but it can bring new experiences to users in voice service operations and applications.

Enhanced call management

Customer demand-oriented is a consistent requirement for our work. What makes customers more satisfied is to allow users to control their own business. IMS enhanced call management makes communication between users more flexible. Other value-added services may provide more options for users, but the business management service allows users to plan and implement their own communication time and methods.

Information sharing

With the growth of data services and the improvement of users' ability to obtain and process information on multimedia grouping terminals, real-time online information communication emerged. Multiple users can process the same data file in real time, there is no need for traditional communication methods such as email notifications.

Mobile streaming media businesses

Streaming media services such as mobile TV services and video sharing services can be directly implemented on the terminal.

Online Games

Gaming applications on mobile terminals have become very popular, but such games are just an application downloaded from mobile terminals. IMS provides you with an online entertainment solution that allows you to access multiple users online from a single game. At the same time, you can use multiple types of media for communication in real time.

Entertainment

Multimedia grouping terminals can be directly connected with information resources. IMS can better present information updates and communication, and filter information as user needs grow.

Based on the above service capabilities, IMS works with key technologies such as session negotiation and management, QoS Management, and mobility management to implement end-to-end communication service capabilities. For existing CS and PS core networks, IMS is designed for real-time and end-to-end mobile services, such as rich call and video telephony. IMS-based carriers can also provide the following services: non-real-time end-to-end services, such as chat and im; multi-party services, such as multimedia conferencing and chat rooms; services from servers to users, such as dynamic push serviecs and click to dial. It can be seen that IMS is the core network technology that can truly improve user experience and enhance operator benefits. This is also the root cause for the introduction of IMS, that is, the business-driven development of IMS.

While fully exploring the multimedia integrated service experience, the inheritance of traditional fixed network terminal access and fixed network service experience based on the IMS architecture is also one of the main topics currently studied. The European tispan Standards Organization has introduced descriptions of the PSTN and ISDN simulation subsystems in the definition of NGN based on the IMS architecture. The PSTN/ISDN simulation subsystem simulates the PSTN/ISDN network from the perspective of a traditional terminal connected to an IP network through a gateway. It ensures the availability and identity of the PSTN/ISDN network services, this makes it hard for users to feel that they are not directly connected to the PSTN/ISDN network. PSTN/ISDN simulation subsystem and IMS are logically separated. The technical difference is that the former is based on H.248 and SIP-I, while the latter is based on pure sip. It is worth noting that the two are only conceptually separated, and the functional entities of different subsystems may be implemented on the same physical node.

BT provides an image metaphor for IMS to implement PSTN/ISDN business simulation.

BT believes that the call server-based Softswitch device is mainly used to replace Circuit switches to provide voice services, while the SIP-based IMS will provide broadband multimedia services. From the perspective of long-term development, the access to the simulated user terminal will eventually be replaced by the SIP-based IP access, but how fast will it be? No one knows, but it is foreseeable that IMS and SoftSwitch will coexist for a long time.

Zhao huiling, Vice President of China Telecom group Beijing Research Institute, also pointed out in his article "how to deal with the relationship between IMs and SoftSwitch": "Call server (Softswitch) the evolution of the circuit switching network will be completed. IMS will mainly complete multimedia services. With the increasing maturity of IMS, their applications will coexist for a long time."

In short, the IMS-based network convergence solution depicts the bright future of network development, so it is widely sought after by operators. Carriers also hope to use this solution to provide a wide range of unified service experience for fixed and mobile users on a unified core network, at the same time, this solution reduces the complexity of the network structure, reduces network O & M costs, and improves the flexibility of business development.
