In the XP system, dual-nic Internet access is absolutely feasible, and dual-host interconnection in XP is not required.
With the development of the times, computers are becoming increasingly popular in today's homes, and many families already have two or more computers. For these users, how can they connect two computers together to form a minimal LAN for sharing files, playing games online, sharing printers, and other peripherals, even Internet access through the Shared Modem has become a focus of applications. This is what we call "dual-host interconnection" here ".
1. prepared materials
The interconnection method we adopt is dual-nic, which is simple and cost-effective. We only need to purchase an additional 10 M/M dual-speed adaptive NIC (about 50 RMB) and a moderately long cable (twisted pair cable ). The valid transmission distance of the network cable is 100 meters, so the construction of a small LAN is enough to meet your needs. There are two types of twisted pair cables: NIC-non-nic (vswitch, route, Hub, etc.) and nic-nic. We obviously use the second type. The cabling sequence of this twisted pair is as follows: one interface is 1, white orange, 2, orange, 3, white green, 4, Blue, 5, white blue, 6, green, 7, white Brown, 8, Brown (568a Standard); another interface is 1, white green, 2, green, 3, white orange, 4, Blue, 5, white blue, 6, orange, 7, white Brown, 8, Brown (568b Standard).
2. Select a host
There are two computers, one of which is the host. The selected Standard is stable *, and the performance is good. You can refer to the following factors: 1. Try to use a computer integrated with the sound card and nic motherboard; 2. Try to increase the memory size before MB (the memory is very cheap now, it is very helpful to buffer large files when you download them at high speed. 3. There is no precedent for hardware conflicts in the past (because NICs are hardware that is prone to conflicts)
3. Install the NIC
After a power failure, insert the NIC in the PCI slot of the host board. Select the second to last PCI slot (the slot that is far from the second to last of the CPU, which is the least likely to cause a conflict ). Start the computer and install the NIC Driver. In half, XP will automatically install the NIC Driver. If XP does not automatically install the NIC driver, it will be installed with the added driver disk when you buy the NIC.
Iv. Network Configuration
This step is the most critical.
Configure the host first. Currently, the host is a dual-nic. One Nic is used to connect to a cat or other Internet access devices. This Nic remains unchanged to ensure that the Internet access can continue. This Nic is called in.
The setting of another Nic is called out. Check the out network protocol first. Right-click the network neighbor (if the network neighbor is not on the desktop, you can find it in the Start Menu; you can also right-click the desktop, attributes, desktop, custom desktop, and tick the network neighbor. OK, in this case, the desktop displays the network neighbors.) Select properties. In this case, we can see two local connections. Select the one with red lines (if the prepared network cable is not plugged in, the local connection of this network card is in the not-connected status). Right-click the properties and you can see the services that have been installed on this network card in general, which generally includes the following: microsoft network client QoS packet scheduler Internet Protocol (TCP/IP ). But we can install another protocol. Choose "Install"> "protocol"> "add"> "Install nwlink IPX, SPX, and NetBIOS from the disk, A protocol installation disk is required (not required when XP is connected to XP or XP is connected to 2000 ).
Configure the IP address and DSN. In the out attribute, select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) attribute, enter "192.168.0.1" in the IP Address Bar, and set the subnet mask to "255.255.255.0", and then click "OK ".
Configure the client.
The NIC of the client does not need to be installed separately. You only need to enable the NIC attribute of this machine, select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) attribute, enter "192.168.0.2" in the IP address bar, the subnet mask is "255.255.255.0", and the gateway is: 192.168.0.1 (Host IP address) should be the same as the DSN setting of host in (if ADSL dialing is used, the DSN here does not need to be set, and then click "OK"
V. Configuration System
Connect the prepared network cable. According to the above method, after the network cable is connected, the Network Adapter should be a green light. Otherwise, check whether the network cable is purchased.
After setting the parameters according to the above method, we will configure the system. 1. enable Guest users (guest is disabled by default ). Start ----- Control Panel ---- user account ----- user account ---- Guest user ---- enable Guest user (not required, 98 required for XP Access ).
Set "home or small office network" on both the host and client. Start ---- Control Panel ---- network and Internet connection ---- set or change your home or small office network and follow the prompts (the prompt is clear and simple). The detailed method is as follows:
1. Host. In the Settings dialog box, press "Next" for two consecutive times and select "first item". This computer is directly connected to the Internet. Other computers on my network are connected to the Internet through this computer ". In the next step, select the network adapter. Select the network adapter that is connected to the Internet, that is, the in network adapter. Next, enter the computer name and description, and then use the default mshome in the Working Group. The default mshome will be used until the last "Change wizard" is completed. I do not need to run this wizard on other computers ".
PS: this setting is correct. You will see a hand held on the local connection corresponding to the In Nic .!

The image of this topic is as follows:

2. on the client. In the "Settings" dialog box, press "Next" twice in a row and select "this computer is connected to the Internet through a gateway in a residential area or another computer ". Next, set the computer name and computer description as needed, but do not enter the same name as the host, and then enter the same name as the host, such as the default mshome. It will remain default until the last item "completes the modification wizard. I do not need to run this wizard on other computers ".
PS: The correct settings here will show multiple gateway labels in the network connection properties.

Vi. troubleshooting
If the client can only access the Internet and cannot share the file with the host (or the host cannot share the file with the client), check whether the workgroup is correctly set, in step 5, set "home or small office network", and try to install the nwlink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS protocol in step 4.
If the user can only share the host file or the file cannot be shared, enter Ping 192.168.0.1-T (host out Nic IP address) in start ---- run ), check whether a value is returned. (Note that after the command is run, a window is opened. If there are values such as 64, 128, or 256 in this window (),

It indicates that the network is connected. The problem is on the settings. Check the configurations of "home or small office network" and "client DNS" and "Gateway" on both hosts !!
Note: the host's dual-nic may conflict. Do not make a mistake with the dual-nic. in particular, do not plug in the network cable incorrectly. The in Nic must be connected to the Internet, such as a device, and the out Nic must be connected to the client.
