Install centos 5.5 (dual system) on Windows XP)

Source: Internet
Author: User

Centos is an open-source version of RHEL. It has powerful RH functions and is free of charge. centos is used as the operating system for servers. For more information about centos, see http://www.centos.org /. My installation journey is as follows:

Step 1: Create a centos image CD

From the official website.

Step 2: Format hard disk partitions

In Windows XP, free up 30 GB space as the centos installation directory, and format the disk in FAT32 format (if the right-click cannot be formatted successfully, you can use some formatting tools ).

OK. Install centos5.5 based on the preceding two steps.

Step 3: Start Installation

Put the CD in the DVD drive and restart the computer. The first screen after entering the optical drive is as follows:

We select the graphical interface for installation, so you can directly press Enter. The following figure is displayed:

If you select scan disc, press OK. Otherwise, you can use Skip. We recommend that you scan the CD when using the CD for the first time to ensure that the CD file is in good condition.

Step 4: select a language

Next, go to the previous step and select the language. The screen is as follows:

Select Simplified Chinese. Next, go to the keyboard selection screen, as shown below:

Select an American keyboard layout and click Next.

Step 5: disk partitioning

Disk partitioning is the most important step. Select a custom partition structure and click "Next ". There are many partitioning methods. Here I chose the simplest method, that is, to create two partitions: root directory/and swap. Create a swap partition and select "new" on the disk in the FAT32 format. The size of the SWAp partition is 1 ~ of the physical memory ~ To make the system run better, set the swap size to twice the physical memory size. Finally, create/partition. Similarly, select "new" and allocate all the remaining disks to/. The file system type is ext3.

OK. The disk partition is complete!

Step 6: select the Bootstrap program

Select GRUB as the Bootstrap program. I select other as the default operating system when the system is started. Other is actually Windows XP. Click Next. You can configure the network after installing the system. Therefore, click "Next ". There is nothing to say about the time zone selection. Select "Asia/Shanghai ". Note: Do not select "use UTC (s) for the system clock )".

Step 7: Set the root user password and select install software package

Remember that the centos password must be six or more characters. The software package can be as simple as possible, directly "Next ". OK. The installation starts.

Step 8: Initialize settings

My machine is 4-core and it took 15 minutes to install it. Then I took the CD out and re-booted the system. "Firewall" can be disabled. It is recommended to enable it if it is used as a server. Click "Next" and set SELinux to "forced ". Click Next to set the system time. After that, click Next to create a new user and test the sound card. The eighth step is basically okay. Click Next. If you need to install the attached disc, it will be inserted into the disc. Click Finish. centos5.5 has been installed successfully!

I installed a total of two machines, and the first hard disk was faulty, which caused Windows XP to be inaccessible and the second machine to be intact.

Problem:

1. After the network connection is set, start the machine again and you may find that the system will wait for a long time in the sendmail service, seriously affecting the user experience. Solution:

Run the hostname command to obtain the Host Name and modify/etc/hosts.
127.0.0.1 localhost. localdomain localhost
Modify this line
127.0.0.1 localhost. localdomain localhost Host Name
2. When using yum for software package installation, other processes are always waiting. What processes are waiting?
A waiting process is a software package update program that runs in the background. There is a yum-updatesd service in the "System"> "management"> "service" and stops it, OK!

Finally, I am also the first time to install centos. I would like to thank all the authors of centos articles for their selfless dedication to allow me to enjoy so valuable experience. Thank you!
