Introduction to diskpart, a Windows system disk Tool

Many of my friends who have come in the Windows 98 era will remember how painful the partitions are before the system is installed. However, since the launch of the diskpart tool with the Windows system, disk Partitions are gradually not mentioned, because they are easy to change. As a Windows user, when you use a third-party partition tool PQ, you have to bear the risk of partitioning, because PQ may make the disk files you split unidentifiable by windows. This article does not introduce how bad PQ is, because I often use it. I want to talk about diskpart, because PQ cannot always be around. You often need diskpart to solve your problem if you pre-install Windows Vista or new Windows 7 laptops.

I. Introduction to diskpart

I used Windows 7 to write this article, so I used Microsoft diskpart 6.1.7600 in the system to briefly introduce how to use diskpart.

Overview of diskpart versions

First, you can check the available commands of diskpart. You can press any character to print out the command list. With the powerful help system of diskpart, you can get started quickly.

List of available diskpart commands

In fact, not many commands are commonly used. Next we will introduce several commands with high usage when creating partitions.

Ii. SELECT command usage

As mentioned above, not all commands are commonly used. The following is the use of selec. Simply put, select is only used to locate an operation object. The Select object will be operated by the following command. You can perform step-by-step operations based on the example.

When we want to operate on a target, select is required, but the operation format is relatively simple and easy to grasp.

Iii. CREATE command usage

Another important command is create. It is easy to understand that you can create partitions or volumes as needed to list the partitions that can be created. Primary partitions, extended partitions, and logical partitions are commonly used.

CREATE Command instance in diskpart

Because the CREATE Command is frequently used, it can be said to be a major application. The detailed syntax parameters of the CREATE command are listed below for reference:

Create a primary partition: createpartitionprimary [size = N] [offset = N] [ID =] [noerr]

Create an extended partition: createpartitionextended [size = N] [offset = N] [noerr]

Create a logical partition: createpartitionlogical [size = N] [offset = N] [noerr]

Parameter description: "N" after size indicates the partition capacity, in MB. If this parameter is omitted, all available space is used for creation. Note that when creating a logical partition, it can only be a useful space in an extended partition.

Offset = N: applies only to the master startup record (MBR) disk.

Noerr: used only for scripts. When an error occurs, specify diskpart to continue processing the command, just as if there is no error. If the noerr parameter is not specified, the diskpart is incorrect.CodeExit.

Id =: Applicable only to the manufacturer of the original device (OEM), with low usage.

After understanding the above two commands, you can use the SELECT command to select the disk or partition to be operated, and use the cteate command to operate on it. For other command usage of diskpart, you can try it by yourself. It is easy to learn according to the prompts in each step of the diskpart help system. In Vista, if you use a compressed volume method, you can only create four primary partitions. Using this tool, you can create an extended partition as you like.
