Microsoft's XP system is known by most netizens as the most outstanding operating system in history, with dazzling features, faster speeds, and of course all of these have higher requirements for computer hardware, if you want Windows XP to use as little of your limited system resources as possible, You may wish to have a "minor operation" for it according to your own needs.

Although XP is called by Microsoft as the most stable and powerful Windows operating system in its history, and runs fast-even faster than the same configuration of Windows 2000-you may still not be satisfied with this and want XP to perform its best performance, Or your hardware configuration is not too high to allow Windows XP to run more smoothly.

This article describes some of the settings that can improve the efficiency of your system, and you want to help your friends who have Windows XP installed.

First, the use of simple interface

XP after the installation of the default interface, including the taskbar, Start menu, desktop Background, windows, buttons, etc. are used in the luxury of XP, dazzling style, but the shortcomings are obvious, they will consume a lot of system resources, but not practical significance.

Method:

Right-click the desktop space, click "Properties" in the pop-up menu to enter the Display Properties Settings window, the "theme, appearance" are set to "Windows Classic", and the desktop background set to "None", press OK to save exit.

Second, reduce startup load project

Many applications are automatically added to the system startup group when they are installed, each time the system will be automated, which not only prolongs the startup time, but also the system resources have been eaten a lot after the boot completes!

Method:

Select "Run" from the "Start" menu, type "msconfig" to start the System Configuration Utility, and go to the "Startup" tab. This window lists the items and sources that are loaded when the system starts up, carefully check if you need it to load automatically, otherwise clear the current check box of the item, and the fewer items loaded, The speed of initiation is naturally faster. This item requires a reboot before it can take effect.

Third, optimize the visual effect

Select the Advanced tab in System properties to enter the performance options interface the choices in visual effects include: Automatically set to best, best appearance, best performance, customization. The more effects you select, the more system resources you use, and the selection of the best performance item closes the list of all visual effects, such as fade, smooth scrolling, sliding open, and so on.

Four, turn off System Restore

System Restore is enabled by default, each drive takes up up to 4%~12% of hard disk space, and system-restored monitoring systems automatically create restore points, which can consume more system resources when running in the background.

Method:

Right-click on the desktop "My Computer" in "Properties" into the System Properties Settings window, select the System Restore tab, "Turn off System Restore on all drives" to the selected state.

V. Speed up the display of menu

Run Registry Editor, go to "Hkey_current_usercontrol paneldesktop", change the name Menushowdelay data value from the original default of 400 to 0, modify the XP Start menu, Even the menu display of the application software will be significantly faster.

Six, enable DMA transfer mode

DMA, or direct memory storage mode, refers to the computer peripheral equipment (mainly refers to the hard disk) can directly and memory exchange data, which can speed up the hard disk read and write speed, improve speed according to transmission rate.

Method:

Select the Hardware tab in System properties to open Device Manager, where IDE controller has two "Primary IDE Channel" and "Secondary IDE Channel", followed by "Properties → advanced settings". The dialog box lists the transfer mode of the device currently connected to the IDE interface, and click the list button to set transfer mode to DMA (if available)

Vii. Mobile Temporary file storage path

Most applications generate temporary files at run time, and these temporary files are saved by default in the boot partition C disk, long time to read and write C disk very easy to produce a large number of file fragments, which affect the performance of C disk, and C disk is the storage system to start the core file partition, C disk performance directly affects the stability of the system and operational efficiency

As far as possible, the application software should be installed in a partition other than the boot disk, and the hard drive will be organized on a regular basis, which minimizes disk fragmentation and keeps the boot or read-write speed in the best state.

Internet Explorer Temp Folder

In the IE main window, click the "Tools →internet options → general" tab, open the "Temporary Internet Files" setting, and click the "Move Folder" button to move the temporary directory that you saved in C to the drive outside of C, and if you are using broadband, you can use the "temporary folder" Use space set to minimum value 1M

Temporary files generated when burning

The file is saved in the burn Temp folder in C disk before burning, enters Explorer, selects the burner letter and clicks the "Properties" item of the right mouse button, and the temporary folder can be placed on the other drive under the Record tab.

My Documents

Right-click on "My Documents" to modify the default save path for My Documents to other letter characters in the property settings item.

Eight, increase virtual memory

Go to the Advanced Settings window in Performance options to first adjust processor scheduling and memory usage to program Optimization mode. Click the "Change" button to enter the Virtual Memory Settings window if your memory is greater than 256M, it is recommended that you disable the paging file.

The default paging file is 1.5 times times the physical memory. Disabling system caching requires a reboot of the system. If your memory is below 256M, do not disable the paging file, or it will cause the system to crash or no longer start xp!

In addition to CPU and hard drive, XP performance depends largely on memory, in view of the current memory price has fallen to the trough, I strongly recommend that you upgrade the memory to more than 512M (preferably 1G), so that you can enjoy the charm of XP more heartily!
