Visual C + + for Linux extensions enable Visual Studio 2015 users to write C or C + + code in VS2015 and deploy code to Linux-based systems for compilation and debugging. The source code and project files are transferred to the remote machine via SSH, and the output of the program is displayed on Visual Studio.

Microsoft's Marc Goodner shared more about the release details of the new version (1.0.5), which, as he said, offers new features in several areas: Makefile project templates, remote source replication management, overridable C/E + + The compiler path and the new debugging options.

The Makefile project template enables you to use an existing compilation system (make, CMake, and so on) on a remote machine, and you can learn more by VS2015 project property settings. In general, the process is to edit the code in VS2015, notify VS2015 to prepare the compilation, invoke the existing compilation system to compile, and finally debug the resulting program in Visual Studio.

There is now more granular control over whether the source files are copied to the remote machine. Whether a file needs to be transferred for compilation can be configured at the file or project level. Another modifiable configuration option is to specify which compiler to use for compilation. The project can choose to use the compiler version required for Clang or any project. The last debugger can add additional command-line arguments, and the debug mode can be set. Switching debug mode is useful when the local machine is running the Windows operating system and there is no appropriate version of GDB.
