I have just installed redhat5.4 and want to compile the kernel on it. I found that the compiling steps are slightly different from those in Ubuntu.
In ubuntu, I generally perform these steps:
- Sudo make clean // do some cleanup to delete useless intermediate files
- Sudo make menuconfig // configure the kernel
- Sudo make
- Sudo make modules // compilation Module
- Sudo make modules_install // installation Module
- Sudo mkinitramfs-O/boot/initrd-2.6. *. IMG 2. 6. * // generate the kernel Image File
- Sudo make install // install the kernel
In redhat5.4, I searched the internet and successfully performed the following steps:
- Make mrproper
- Sudo make menuconfig
- Sudo make bzimage
- Sudo make modules
- Sudo make modules_install
- Sudo make install
Obviously, the steps below are simpler than those above. Is there any other method?
