Windows Remote Management (ws-management)
The Windows Remote Management (WinRM) service executes the Ws-management protocol for remote Administration. Ws-management is a standard WEB services protocol for remote software and hardware management. The WinRM service listens for Ws-management requests on the network and processes them. Configure the WinRM service to be able to listen over the network, either through Group Policy or by using the listener for the Winrm.cmd command-line tool. The WinRM service provides access to WMI data and enables the collection of events. The event collection and the subscription to the event require that the service be in a running state. The HTTP and HTTPS protocols are used when transferring WinRM messages. The WinRM service does not rely on IIS, but is preconfigured on the same computer to share ports with IIS. The WinRM service retains the/wsman URL prefix. To prevent conflicts with IIS, administrators should ensure that all sites hosted on IIS do not use the/wsman URL prefix.
