After reading these texts, you will not cry or get angry when you accidentally delete WINDOWS icons!

Windows desktop icons are used to start certain programs or documents on a computer. If one day it suddenly disappears or is accidentally deleted (especially those default Windows icons ), what kind of mood will you feel, crying or furious?

Next we will talk about how to retrieve it.

There are two types of icons on Windows desktop: shortcut icons and default icons.

The shortcut icon is automatically created when the application is installed or manually created by the computer user. It is marked with a small arrow pointing from bottom left to top right. Delete it. It only deletes the boot information that accesses it from the desktop, but does not delete the application file or document itself, so you don't have to worry about its loss. Generally, shortcuts can be deleted.

The default icon is automatically created when the Windows operating system is installed. It is marked with a real icon without a small arrow to show a difference from the shortcut desktop icon on the Windows operating platform. Generally, you cannot create a default icon for an application. Therefore, the deletion of the default desktop icon is strictly speaking, the system hides or does not show the protection of these icons, rather than completely clearing them from the recycle bin like deleting the shortcut icon. This is also a major difference between the default icon and the shortcut icon.

There are two ways to reproduce the deleted shortcut icons: (1) restore from the Start menu of the desktop; (2) restore from the specific file location of my computer.

The procedure for recreating the first method is as follows: place the cursor to "Start> program", call out the application menu, locate and select the file you deleted, and right-click the file, right-click the function cascade menu, select "send to → desktop shortcut" in the function cascade menu, and click with the left mouse button.

The second method of reproduction is as follows: double-click the "my computer" icon on the left of the mouse to open the "my computer" window, press Ctrl and F on the keyboard to open the file search interface (on the left side of my computer window ), fill in the name of the file you deleted in the first input box on the "file search interface" (if other input boxes are left blank, use the default value), and then press "Search ", the system will automatically search for the file you entered and display all the results found on the right side of the same window. In these results, find the file you deleted and right-click the file, right-click the cascade function menu, select "send to → desktop shortcut" in the function cascade menu, and click with the left mouse button.
These two methods can solve the problem of restoring all shortcut icons. Note: (1) the restoration of the shortcut icon is based on the existence and validity of a real file. If the real file mapped by the shortcut icon is deleted or invalid, do not blame the method I introduced. (2) The shortcut files found in the "Start" menu generally have corresponding real files in "My Computer", but the opposite is not true, the real files found in my computer may not be found in the Start Menu. Therefore, some shortcut icons that are directly mapped from the drive letter or folder to the non-Start menu on the desktop can only be restored by "recovering from the specific file location on my computer, instead, you cannot use the "restore from the Start menu of the desktop" method.

There are two ways to reproduce the deleted default icons: (1) control panel method and (2) Group Policy method. The specific process varies with the Windows version. The control panel method applies to operating systems earlier than Windows 2000, and the Group Policy method applies to operating systems after Windows 2000. (Remember the operating system applicable to each method !!)

Use the control panel method to restore the "My Documents" icon. The procedure is as follows: Open "Control Panel> Folder Options" and select "View ", in "Advanced Settings", find the "show my documents" option on the desktop, and left-click the check box before it until the "√" check box appears, click "OK" on the "Folder Options" interface with the left mouse button.

Use the control panel method to restore the "Internet Explorer" icon. The procedure is as follows: Open "Internet Explorer", select "advanced", and find "show Internet Explorer on the desktop" in the "Settings" box, click the check box in front of it with the left mouse button until "√" is displayed in the box, and then click "OK" on the "Internet properties" interface with the left mouse button.

Use the Group Policy method to restore the "My Documents" icon. The procedure is as follows: From "Start> Run", open the "run" input box, and enter "gpedit. msc, click OK, gpedit. the msc file will bring up the "Group Policy" Configuration window. In this window, click the plus sign before "management module" under "user configuration" to expand the "Management Module" folding folder, select the "desktop" folder under the folder (all options of "desktop> Settings" will appear on the right ), in the content box on the right, select the "delete my computers" icon on the desktop, right-click it, bring up the function menu, and click "properties ", open the "delete my computer" icon attribute on the desktop "dialog box (for example). In the" Settings "column, you can see the three radio buttons" Not Configured "and" (already) enable or disable the radio button in the "not configured" or "(disabled)" status.

Use the Group Policy method to restore the "Internet Explorer", "my computer", and "Network Neighbor" icons. The procedure is the same as to restore the "My Documents" icon. The difference is that in the "desktop> Settings" option, the selected objects are different. Select "Hide Internet Explorer icon on the desktop" for "Internet Explorer", and select "delete my computer" for "My Computer" for "My Computer "; select "Network Neighbor" and click "Hide Network Neighbor" on the desktop ". However, there are also the following special cases:

(1) in Windows 2000, if the "enabled" policy in the Group Policy method is used to delete or hide an icon, the control panel method applicable to operating systems earlier than Windows 2000 will be invalid;

(2) In Windows XP, the restoration methods for desktops in classic and dreamy modes are also different. In Classic mode, the default desktop icon can only be restored in "Display Properties → desktop → custom desktop (D)", rather than using the Group Policy method. In fantasy mode, the default desktop icon can be restored in the Group Policy method or in the Start menu (except Internet Explorer ).

In Classic mode, to restore the default desktop icon, right-click the blank area of the desktop, right-click the function menu, select "properties", and open the "Display Properties" dialog box, select "desktop> Custom desktop (D)" and open the "desktop project" dialog box. In the "General" option, the "desktop icon" column appears, select a project that is not selected, just like selecting a check box project in Control Panel restoration method.

In fantastic mode, you can restore the default desktop image from the Start Menu by opening the Start Menu, finding the icon file to be restored, right-clicking it, right-click the function and select "display on desktop.
