In System Center 2012-operations manager, a group is a logical set of Windows-based computers, hard disks, Microsoft SQL Server instances, and other objects. You can use the create group Wizard to create a group. You can explicitly assign members to a group, or create rules that will generate dynamic group members.

The purpose of using a group is as follows:

  1. Identifies the alternative scope as a specific group of computers.

  2. Determines the scope of alert notifications or product connector subscriptions for a group of specific computers.

  3. Determine the scope of the user console so that user roles can view only the servers they are responsible.

  4. Determine the scope of a group of computers that need to enter the scheduled maintenance mode.

  5. Define the scope of the application view as limited to computers hosting a given application.

  6. Creates a summary running status view for a group of computers that are not related to the group.

  7. Create a group of computers for reports.

You can create and manage groups in the "Create" workspace on the Operation console.

The computer group contains only computers. An instance group can contain all object types, such as running status service instances or SQL database instances. Both the computer group and instance group can contain other computers and instance groups. Another way to view the differences between group types is:

  1. The instance group contains objects that meet your requirements.

  2. The computer group is filled with computers that host qualified objects.

If you are using the console, you can only create instance groups. To create a computer group, you must use the creation console or directly in the XML of the management package.

After entering the create group wizard, We can name the new group and select the target management package ,.

650) This. width = 650; "Title =" 04 "style =" border-top: 0px; border-Right: 0px; Background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-Right: 0px; "Border =" 0 "alt =" 04 "src =" http://img1.51cto.com/attachment/201407/25/639838_1406274907X8DA.png "Height =" 484 "/>

For example, if I didn't use the default target management package, I chose to create a new management package.

650) This. width = 650; "Title =" 05 "style =" border-top: 0px; border-Right: 0px; Background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-Right: 0px; "Border =" 0 "alt =" 05 "src =" http://img1.51cto.com/attachment/201407/25/639838_1406274907HyBt.png "Height =" 484 "/>

650) This. width = 650; "Title =" 07 "style =" border-top: 0px; border-Right: 0px; Background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-Right: 0px; "Border =" 0 "alt =" 07 "src =" http://img1.51cto.com/attachment/201407/25/639838_1406274908GkFJ.png "Height =" 484 "/>

Then you need to specify the members in the group. Because the group is created, the Members mentioned here are computers.

650) This. width = 650; "Title =" 08 "style =" border-top: 0px; border-Right: 0px; Background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-Right: 0px; "Border =" 0 "alt =" 08 "src =" http://img1.51cto.com/attachment/201407/25/639838_1406274908HizU.png "Height =" 484 "/>

Select the computer as the member type.

650) This. width = 650; "Title =" 09 "border =" 0 "alt =" 09 "src =" http://img1.51cto.com/attachment/201407/25/639838_1406274908PVbL.png "Height =" 484 "/>

After the selection is complete, as shown in.

650) This. width = 650; "Title =" 10 "border =" 0 "alt =" 10 "src =" http://img1.51cto.com/attachment/201407/25/639838_1406274909m2Nv.png "Height =" 484 "/>

After adding ,.

Then, we can configure dynamic inclusion rules. All computers that comply with the rules we set will be automatically added to this group ,.

650) This. width = 650; "Title =" 12 "style =" border-top: 0px; border-Right: 0px; Background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-Right: 0px; "Border =" 0 "alt =" 12 "src =" http://img1.51cto.com/attachment/201407/25/639838_1406274909Q2jq.png "Height =" 484 "/>

Here I set two rules, which are defined by the name of NetBIOS installation ,.

650) This. width = 650; "Title =" 13 "style =" border-top: 0px; border-Right: 0px; Background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-Right: 0px; "Border =" 0 "alt =" 13 "src =" http://img1.51cto.com/attachment/201407/25/639838_1406274909inda.png "Height =" 484 "/>

As shown in.

650) This. width = 650; "Title =" 14 "style =" border-top: 0px; border-Right: 0px; Background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-Right: 0px; "Border =" 0 "alt =" 14 "src =" http://img1.51cto.com/attachment/201407/25/639838_1406274910c35z.png "Height =" 484 "/>

After the dynamic inclusion rule is set, as shown in.

650) This. width = 650; "Title =" 15 "style =" border-top: 0px; border-Right: 0px; Background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-Right: 0px; "Border =" 0 "alt =" 15 "src =" http://img1.51cto.com/attachment/201407/25/639838_1406274910Eqz9.png "Height =" 484 "/>

You can also choose to add sub-groups, which are kept by default and not added here.

650) This. width = 650; "Title =" 16 "style =" border-top: 0px; border-Right: 0px; Background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-Right: 0px; "Border =" 0 "alt =" 16 "src =" http://img1.51cto.com/attachment/201407/25/639838_1406274910RV31.png "Height =" 484 "/>

You can also set excluded members in the group. excluded objects or computers will not appear in the group.

650) This. width = 650; "Title =" 17 "style =" border-top: 0px; border-Right: 0px; Background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-Right: 0px; "Border =" 0 "alt =" 17 "src =" http://img1.51cto.com/attachment/201407/25/639838_1406274910qS0x.png "Height =" 484 "/>

We can perform basic daily management on newly created groups ,.

There are many group management options in the task pane.

You can view the running status of the group ,.

You can view the distributed view of computers in the group ,.

650) This. width = 650; "Title =" 21 "style =" border-top: 0px; border-Right: 0px; Background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-Right: 0px; "Border =" 0 "alt =" 21 "src =" http://img1.51cto.com/attachment/201407/25/639838_1406274912h25O.png "Height =" 390 "/>

Expand the plus sign to see a more detailed group view ,.
