In order to save Internet access fees and improve work efficiency, many people share the Internet with multiple computers by using the ADSL routing function. However, if you want to enjoy Internet access through ADSL, you also need to learn the proper adjustment of ADSL from the details.

On-demand combination of hardware devices

The "match" mentioned here refers to whether the ADSL Broadband modem works with a vswitch or a hub. Although both of them can achieve Internet sharing, however, they have different online effects. Generally, when an ADSL Broadband modem is used with a hub, the broadcast mode is used. In this mode, any port of the hub will affect other ports when it is working, if multiple ports of the Hub work at the same time, the network performance of each port will be seriously affected. The phenomenon is that data packet loss is serious and the network response speed is slow; all the ports of the hub can only work in half duplex mode, and each port shares the bandwidth. If the ADSL Broadband modem and the switch are used together, communication between each port will not affect other ports, and each port will enjoy dedicated bandwidth, it can work in both full and half duplex modes. More importantly, when the ADSL Broadband modem and the switch are used together, the switch can automatically process the signal fragments generated during the data transmission process, thus improving the information transmission efficiency.

In practice, we should select a matching method based on the purpose of accessing the Internet. If shared Internet access is used only for simple file sharing and transmission, and the number of workstations sharing Internet access is not too large, you can consider using the Internet access method with the ADSL Broadband modem and hub, after all, this method is relatively economical and has little impact on the speed of small-scale LAN Internet access. If shared Internet access is often used to process large amounts of data and the lan network size is large, we recommend that you use an ADSL Broadband modem and a vswitch to access the Internet, because this method can efficiently transmit data. Of course, if we have ample resources, we should try our best to use the latter method to facilitate future expansion and upgrade.

Billing method impact settings

If you use the pay-as-you-go billing method, you must correctly set the working method of the ADSL Broadband modem, and want it to automatically detect whether there is an Internet connection request, if not, it is best to disconnect the current network. If we use the monthly subscription method, there is no need for the ADSL Broadband modem to automatically detect Internet connection requests, because this method is not subject to time constraints, we should prevent the ADSL Broadband modem from automatically disconnecting the network to improve the efficiency of Internet sharing.

When setting the preceding settings, follow these steps: Right-click the "Network Neighbor" icon on the desktop and click the "attribute" command from the shortcut menu, open the network connection List window. In this window, right-click the ADSL Broadband dialing icon and click the "properties" command from the shortcut menu to open the ADSL dialing Parameter Setting dialog box; click the "options" tab in the dialog box to go To the tab page shown in 1. If you change the "idle time before hanging up" parameter to "never, this can prevent the ADSL Broadband modem from automatically disconnecting the network. This parameter is suitable for monthly subscription Internet access. If you change the "idle time before suspension" parameter to a specific value, if the ADSL Broadband modem cannot detect the existence of a network connection for a certain period of time, it will automatically disconnect the network connection, which can effectively save the cost of Internet connection, this parameter setting method is applicable to the on-time billing method.
Network Connection knowledge

No matter whether the ADSL Broadband modem works with a hub or a vswitch, you must first prepare the network cable and connect it with the network cable. However, when using different standard network cables for connection operations, the specific connection methods are different. If you do not pay attention to the differences in network connections, it is very likely that the purpose of ADSL Internet sharing cannot be achieved.

Under normal circumstances, the purchased ADSL Broadband modem will give a random network cable, which is usually a cross-network cable, that is, one end of the network cable is produced according to the 568B wiring standard, the other end of the network cable is produced according to the 568A wiring standard. However, when observing whether the network cable belongs to a crossover network cable, you only need to place the RJ45 connectors at both ends of the network cable side by side, then carefully observe the wiring in the connector. If the two ends are completely the same, it is definitely not a crossover network cable, but a parallel network cable. If the two ends are different, it should be a crossover network cable. When you connect an ADSL Broadband modem to a vswitch or a hub using a crossover network cable, you should insert the RJ45 connector at one end of the network cable into the lanport of the ADSL Broadband modem, insert the RJ45 connector at the other end of the network cable to the UPLINK port of the switch or hub. When using a parallel network cable to connect the ADSL Broadband modem to a switch or hub, you should insert the RJ45 connector at one end of the network cable into the lanport of the ADSL Broadband modem, insert the RJ45 connector at the other end of the network cable to the port other than the "UPLINK" of the switch or hub. That is to say, the other end of the network cable must be connected to the common port of the switch or hub, for other computers that share Internet access, you only need to use parallel lines to connect to the common port of the switch or hub.

Tip: A crossover network cable is usually used to connect switches or hubs that support cascade functions, and their cascade ports are usually shared with the first or last port, therefore, once the cross-connection method is used, the first or last port cannot be used. A parallel network cable is usually used to connect switches or hubs that do not support cascade functions.

TCP/IP attribute Configuration

The "configuration" here refers to the parameter setting for the "TCP/IP attribute" in the local connection. If different configurations are made for this parameter, the system startup speed will be different. For example, if you do not configure parameters for the local "TCP/IP attribute", the windows system will spend some time checking the local Internet access parameters during startup, once you find that this parameter is not configured, the system may automatically set the parameter so that the system startup speed will be affected. On the contrary, if we configure appropriate parameters for "TCP/IP attributes", it will not only increase the system startup speed, but also increase the speed of surfing the Internet.

When configuring parameters for "TCP/IP properties", you can right-click the "Network neighbors" icon on the desktop and click the "properties" command from the shortcut menu, open the network connection List window. In this window, right-click the "local connection" icon and execute the "properties" command in the shortcut menu, open the "local connection" parameter Settings dialog box. Click the "General" tab in the dialog box and select the "TCP/IP properties" option on the corresponding tab page to open the setting interface shown in 2, set the IP address of the local connection to "automatically obtained", and set the IP address of the preferred DNS server to the IP address of the ADSL Broadband modem, generally "192.168.1.1 ", set the IP address of the backup DNS server to the DNS server address provided by the local ISP. After completing the preceding parameter settings, click OK to exit the parameter settings window and restart the computer system, the system starts faster than when the "TCP/IP attribute" is not configured.

TIPS: if we use the route sharing Function of the ADSL Broadband modem, we must first configure the IP address of the local DNS server in the broadband modem, this improves the speed of Internet sharing. When you set DNS parameters for the ADSL Broadband modem, you can open the Internet Explorer window, enter the default IP address of the broadband modem in its address bar, which is 192.168.1.1), and click Enter, open the management logon window. In this case, we can find the Default usernames and passwords from the instructions of the ADSL Broadband modem. After entering them correctly, you can access the background management configuration interface of the ADSL Broadband modem. Click the "service" tab in the background interface, and then click the "DNS" option on the corresponding tab page to open the setting page shown in 3; on this page, select the "enable" option, correctly enter the IP address of the DNS server provided by the local ISP, and then click "add" and "Submit, the DNS parameter setting task can be completed. Do not forget to perform the save operation afterwards. Otherwise, the previously set parameters will not work.

Switch Routing

Generally, when the ADSL Broadband modem does not enable the built-in routing function to access the Internet, it only plays the role of information forwarding. virus or hacker attacks usually directly affect the client computer, at this time, the security measures we take are generally to install various security tools on the client computer, for example, install the latest anti-virus tool, the latest network firewall, and the latest intrusion detection tool.

If the built-in routing function is enabled for the ADSL Broadband modem to access the Internet, virus or hacker attacks will directly affect the ADSL Broadband modem, in this case, if we do not take security protection measures, it will continue to cut off, thus reducing the efficiency of Internet sharing. Considering that ADSL Broadband modem has built-in firewall functions, we should first enable this function to protect it from illegal attacks. When this function is enabled, you can first go to the background management configuration interface of the ADSL Broadband modem according to the method described above. Then, click the "service" tab in the interface, click the "firewall" option on the corresponding tab page To Go To The setting page shown in 4: Set "Attack protection" on this page to "Enable ", set "DOS Protection" to "Enable", click "Submit", and then save the settings to the ADSL Broadband modem, and restart the ADSL Broadband modem to bring the built-in firewall into effect.

In addition to using the firewall to protect the ADSL Broadband modem from attacks, we can also modify the default service port of the broadband modem to reject external attacks, for example, the default WEB port is "80". If we change it to "8080", other attackers will not be able to find the attack entry, in this way, you will not be able to initiate an attack to the ADSL Broadband modem. When modifying the service port, follow the previous steps to go to the background management configuration interface of the ADSL Broadband modem. Then, click the "manage" tab in the interface, click the "Port Settings" option on the corresponding tab page to modify the service port number on the corresponding settings page; the method for modifying other service port numbers is the same. After modifying all port numbers, you also need to save the parameters and restart the ADSL Broadband modem.
