The following describes how to install Backtrack 5 with a Windows 7 or Windows XP operating system. The installation process does not affect any data on the computer. Preparation: Burn a Backtrack 5 CD (the CD is much simpler and safer than other installation methods); back up important data in the hard disk to the mobile hard disk or USB flash disk to avoid the risk of data loss; in "my computer", calculate the hard disk capacity obtained by adding all the partitions.

1. Clear all files in a hard disk partition in Windows, or use the hard disk management tool to separate a blank partition. This partition will be used to install Backtrack 5. It is recommended that the size be greater than 10 Gb to ensure the installation is successful and future use (I split the space by 20 GB ). Then, delete the partition through the hard disk management or other hard disk management tools provided by Windows (after the partition is successfully added to "my computer", the capacity of all partitions is less than the previously calculated value is the deleted Partition ).


 

2. If software such as one-click Restore wizard or one-click ghost is installed, uninstall the software to avoid adverse effects on the installation.
3. Put the Backtrack 5 disc into the optical drive, and then shut down.
4. Press the boot button and immediately change it to boot through the CD (usually F2, F8, F12, etc.) to enter the Linux boot interface. Select the Default Text mode to start. Root @ root :~ # Then, Enter startx and press Enter.



 


 


 

5. On the Backtrack page, double-click Install Backtrack to Install Backtrack. There are 7 installation steps, of which step 1 is particularly important, and the rest can be set at will. The installer automatically handles swap and ext partition issues. If the hard disk is large, the wait time will be very long after you click Forward in step 1. The author: the 3rd GB hard disk, waiting for nearly 20 minutes, even thought it was dead. In step 2, select "Use the largest continuous free space "! It is very important to select this option, otherwise it will lead to hard disk data loss !!


 


 

6. Just keep waiting. It will take a long time to copy the file to 99%, about 10 minutes. After the installation is complete, ask if you want to restart. Restart and enter Backtrack smoothly. The installation is successful.


 

This installation method does not affect the original partition and data, and is complete installation. This installation method is strongly recommended.
