Tips for setting up FTP under Windows 2008 IIS7

If you want to allow users to upload or download files in a site, you need to set up FTP on the WEB server. You need to place the files in a directory on the FTP server so that users can establish an FTP connection and file transfer through an FTP client or an FTP-enabled Web browser. To install FTP in IIS 7.0

To set up an FTP site, you must first install the FTP service through the Role management tool in Windows Server 2008. The specific process is as follows:

To install the FTP service on a Windows client

1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2. Click Programs, and then click Turn Windows features on or off.

3. In the Windows Features dialog box, expand the Internet Information Services node.

4. Expand the FTP Publishing Service node, and then click the FTP Publishing Service check box.

5. Click the FTP Management Console check box and the FTP server check box, and then click OK.

To install the FTP service on a Windows server

1. On the Start menu, click Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager.

2. In the Role Summary section of the Server Manager pane, click Web Server (IIS).

3. In the Web Server (IIS) section, click Add Role Service.

4. Under Role Services, select the FTP Publishing Service. This installs the FTP service and the FTP management console.

5. Click Next, and then click Install.
