In fact, there are several reasons for the printer can not be shared, various reasons for the solution is not the same, the following small series to teach you how to solve this problem based on different reasons!

One, the Network Neighborhood is unable to browse normally

To set up a printer share in an XP system, the first thing to do is to check whether the "View workgroup computers" option in the Network Neighborhood is normal browsing, whether a print server is present, rather than installing a network printer directly on the workstation. If you cannot find a print server, you need to resolve this problem first.

Solution:

(1) Verify that the local Area network workgroup name is the same, and then go to the Native Connection Properties window;

(2) Click the "Install" button to add "NWLink Ipx/spx/netbios Compatible Transport Protocol" protocol.

Second, unable to browse the print server

Double-click the Print server icon to see if a shared printer exists, if you do not see a shared printer or if you cannot browse the print server, the current workstation does not have sufficient permissions to address this issue.

Solution:

(1) Open the Guest account in the print server and, in Group Policy, enter the computer configuration →windows settings → security settings → local policies → user rights assignment, and delete the Guest account in the "Deny access to this computer from the network" item;

(2) Check the "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft network" option in the local Area Connection attribute of the print server.

Third, the workstation does not search for shared printers

Only Microsoft Windows network information appears in the list of shared printers, but printer sharing is not searched.

Solution:

Method 1: "Local Area Connection" installs "NWLink Ipx/spx/netbios Compatible Transport Protocol" protocol;

Method 2: In My Network Places, double-click the print server, right-click the shared printer icon, select "Connect" in the pop-up shortcut menu, and click "Yes" in the pop-up box to quickly install the shared printer;

Method 3: Check that the print server's local area connection has the Internet Connection Firewall feature enabled, and if it is turned on, cancel the feature, and if you want to use the Internet Connection Firewall feature and want to share files and printers, install the NetBEUI protocol (the non-routing protocol).
