50% smartphone photographers use cloud storage services to store photos

Although the cloud concept has been around for years, the use of cloud storage services is growing rapidly. Given the explosive growth in the prevalence of smartphones and tablets over the past 7-8 years, this is a reasonable situation. As evidence of the importance of current cloud storage, a new report says that half of mobile phone photographers rely on cloud storage services to some extent to store photos.

Market research company Suite Analytics has conducted extensive surveys of all types of users who use mobile phones to take photos. Of the 25-44-year-old mobile phone users, both male and female users accounted for almost half. 50% per cent of respondents said they used cloud storage services to store some or all of their photos, while 16% per cent of all photos were stored in cloud storage services.

The first major reason for respondents to store photos through the cloud storage service is to back up photos, for which reason the use of cloud storage accounts for 43%. The two major reasons behind this are the access to photos (28%) and the storage space (20%) of the device through a variety of devices. The report also reveals that users store photos for a variety of reasons in the cloud storage service, with 37% of respondents saying they only store the most important photos in the cloud storage service.

Respondents mentioned a variety of photo storage services, but the vast majority of users use the following three services: Google Drive (30%), Dropbox (29%) and icloud (22%). In addition, 7% and 6% of users selected Flickr and Microsoft SkyDrive respectively.

The report also disclosed why photographers do not rely on cloud storage services, 39% of whom are concerned about privacy, and 32% say they do not understand the advantages of cloud storage services.
