Microsoft announced at its recent Microsoft Global Partners conference that it would launch a white-labeled Windows Azure for its azure partners to resell them, The move will allow its partners to provide an azure-like experience for customers using their own cloud computing or Azure-branded cloud computing as their own cloud computing.


This hybrid cloud computing strategy provides a unique opportunity for Microsoft's cloud computing providers to stand out and use their own services, while still providing customers with a familiar Windows interface and an experience using azure infrastructure as a service or IaaS.


The white label Cloud computing has benefited Azure's partner Microsoft.


Microsoft's new service Management portal will allow Azure partners to use their own cloud computing infrastructure and Azure cloud computing to deliver Microsoft apps to their customers.


The move to use white label Azure was an attempt by Microsoft to launch a cloud-computing operating system comparable to VMware's Vcloud director, said Dave Bartoletti, a senior analyst at Forrester Research. "VMware has been a powerful virtualization product and has been able to build public cloud computing compatible with its own software, but Microsoft has not yet done the same job," he said.


By providing white label Azure for its partners, Microsoft is able to work with wmware on a higher level of hybrid cloud computing because its partners can support Microsoft's applications and tools in public cloud computing or private cloud computing environments.


"The white label will expand the scope of Microsoft's cloud computing services and allow Azure partners to deliver more end-to-end solutions to their customers," Bartoletti said, noting that customers will benefit from the lower cost of the azure partner's smaller cloud computing, And they don't need to learn to use a new platform. "Microsoft wants to make sure that its tools are applied everywhere, not just in its own cloud," he said.


Microsoft's focus may not be on a higher level with other large professional cloud-computing providers. Microsoft, by contrast, is exactly the natural process of following the cloud computing market, says Tom Nolle, Cimi's president, "and Microsoft is working to make their cloud computing business mature," he said. The presence of Azure partners adds up to Microsoft's overall cloud-computing strategy.


Azure partners must differentiate themselves from Microsoft


Microsoft is loosening its grip on its services and the company is trying to reach out to more customers, while Azure partners must simultaneously take steps to make their products stand out, says Amy DeCarlo, chief analyst for Security and data center services at the current analytics firm.


The extent of the Azure partner Custom Service Management portal is still unclear, but Microsoft will leave room for existing partners, such as the platform, the service PAAs provider Apprenda Company, to use a different approach to build on azure. Security, pricing patterns, and customer support will vary from partner to partner, she said. "Partners will be able to use Azure tags as their own, they can build a unique solution set for their customers," she added.


But, in a way, Azure partners will be rivals to Microsoft, says Bartoletti of Forrester. Azure partners have never had the opportunity to use Microsoft's tools in their own cloud computing environments. Cloud computing provider partners should focus on Microsoft based tools to build applications and value-added services, and restore these products with the most reliable terms of service and rapid response times, he said. "If azure partners can make sure they are the most reliable customer-specific workloads or become the best suppliers for creating Microsoft SharePoint Private Cloud computing, they can stand out," he added.
