Big Love! Five open source cloud computing management tools full resolution

Open source technology has begun to deeply affect the world of cloud computing. There are two main reasons: first, open source software is essentially free, and it is generally not affected by proprietary software copyright models. Many proprietary software vendors, such as Microsoft and Oracle, are trying to maintain outdated and expensive license patterns, even though this pattern has hampered the flexibility of virtualization and cloud computing.

Conversely, some open source tools are having a huge impact on the public cloud: Linux and Xen, for example. In addition, there are a number of other important open source tools for users to bring considerable benefits, including: KVM, Deltacloud, Eucalyptus, cloud.com cloudstack Community Edition and Opennebula.

KVM

KVM (kernel based virtual machine) is a management program designed for Linux running on top of x86 hardware. It includes virtualization extensions (Intel vt or AMD-V). With KVM, you can run multiple sets of virtual machines (VMs) based on Linux or Windows mirroring. KVM is an upstream management program that is in the Linux kernel and turns the kernel into hardware management. KVM as upstream product is accompanied by the Linux configuration process. For kernel upgrades, KVM is a more automated approach. The KVM currently supports the red Hat Enterprise Linux,,ubuntu and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server.

Deltacloud

Deltacloud is an Open-source project launched by Red Hat last year. Currently, it has been transformed into the Apache incubator project, instead of just one effort by Red Hat. Deltacloud extracts differences between cloud environments and maps cloud User Client application programming interfaces (APIs) to most popular cloud computing application interfaces, including Amazon Ec2,gogrid,opennebula and Rackspace. Terremark and Vcloud drivers will also be launched shortly. So Deltacloud has the ability to manage a diverse cloud virtual infrastructure.

Deltacloud takes into account almost all recognized virtualized environments, such as Kvm,vmware ESX and Hyper-V virtual environments, which are managed by the unified management interface of Deltacloud. Deltacloud changed the original ESX based VMs to a management platform, based on Hyper-V VMS and a management platform disadvantage. All VMs are managed only by one management platform. Deltacloud enables different virtual machines to be transferred or migrated in real time between different virtual environments, such as from VMware to Rhev (Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization) or from VMware to Microsoft. If the enterprise has already used IBM Tivoli or HP Openview,deltacloud can still be integrated into it.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus Community Cloud is a closed cloud environment where you can test drivers and related Eucalyptus applications. It is a private cloud computing platform that implements the Amazon EC2 specification in the form of IaaS (infrastructure as a Service). The eucalyptus itself conforms to the specifications of the Amazon API and its toolkit, and rarely appears to be exceptional. It also includes management features such as user management, storage configuration, network management, and managing and maintaining private cloud management configurations. Eucalyptus targets Linux systems that use KVM and Xen virtualization technologies. The 9.04 version of Ubuntu has packaged it, packaged Eucalyptus linux systems and Centos,debian,opensuse and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x.

Cloud.com

Cloud.com (formerly Vmops) provides an open-source version (GPL v3 license) for Cloudstack Infrastructure management products: Cloudstack Community Edition (Cloudstack Community Edition). Cloudstack also supports VMware ESX, Xen, KVM, and Hyper-V. It provides a wealth of cloud interface management tools such as VM Self-Service provisioning, dynamic workload management, multiple lease periods, and more. It also supports guest access for Windows and Linux.

Opennebula

Opennebula is an open source toolkit built for cloud computing. It allows you to build and manage a private cloud with XEN,KVM or VMware ESX, while also providing a Deltacloud adapter to manage the hybrid cloud with Amazon EC2. In addition to Amazon's business cloud service providers, Amazon Partners running private clouds on different Opennebula instances can also serve as remote cloud service providers.
