October 18, 2014,csdn& "programmer" sponsored by the 2014 Container Technical Conference (Container conference 2014) will be held in Beijing, domestic and foreign Container technicians and business practice users will be in Beijing for the first time. Docker, VMware, IBM, Red Hat, domestic internet companies and start-up technology team container technical experts and first-line developers will be sharing their production environment container project experience and best practice program.

more questions about supporting container's cloud computing technology, please Docker Community FAQ post, Feng Honglin and Shao will answer online.

Docker container hosting service Tutum has just received the 2.65 million-dollar angel financing from RTC Venture, and we have specifically invited Tutum software engineer Feng Honglin and Splunk software engineer Shao, who will do the 2014 container Technical Conference "Container-enabled Cloud Technologies" share. Prior to this meeting, we interviewed Feng Honglin and Shao specifically to help you understand the subject matter better. In addition, in order to enhance the interaction between lecturers and participants, to enhance the interaction between participants and to better organize the topic, we have established a container micro-letter discussion group, inviting only ticket users and conference lecturers. Shao, Splunklab full-circle software engineer, is responsible for the automation testing of the Splunk core data analysis platform. Prior to joining Splunk, a senior software engineer at EMC China Research and Development Center tried to introduce the use and promotion of Docker technology into the team, leading the team to develop a docker based automated distributed testing framework.

Feng Honglin, graduated from Carnegie Mellon University, has studied in Japan and the United States. The incumbent Tutum engineer has a wealth of experience in applying cloud Docker. Production and maintenance of tutum related mirrors, the total download volume of more than 400,000.

CSDN: What attracts you to delve into container (docker) technology?

Feng Honglin: The first time I contacted the container-related technology was at Pittsburg Carnegie Mellon University reading Information security. There was a strong interest in this "lightweight virtual technology" that could revolutionize server-side software. So I started early to learn about Docker technology and became a loyal user of Docker. Docker development teams and communities have made great achievements in the standardization and development of Linux container technologies, making new technologies easier to use.

Shao: I initially started experimenting with traditional virtualization techniques to try to solve the automated deployment of a test environment. Although the traditional virtualization solution to the problem of isolation, but its slow to create, storage footprint of the shortcomings still have been bothering me until I met Docker. Container virtualization brings faster creation speed, and Docker's excellent management of image makes me a loyal user of Docker. I believe that the advent of Docker is the best solution to the problem of environmental deployment in automated testing.

CSDN: What are some of the problems container (Docker) have a unique advantage?

Feng Honglin: The best place to container is to solve the problem of code portability and portability. For example, you're likely to have the problem that your program works pretty well in your local development environment, but when deployed to other machines or servers, there are all sorts of unexpected problems. And the advent of Docker will make this history. Many people are comparing container and virtual machines, in fact, in my opinion, these two technologies are actually complementary. The VM solves the bottleneck of the hardware, and container solves the bottleneck of the software.

Shao: In the process of automated testing, the most difficult thing is to build a test environment. Often a tested system relies on a large number of third-party services, such as Mysql, redis, for actual deployment. And this time, what we need is actually a service, not a complete virtual machine. The best thing about Docker is that it solves isolation, lets us start with a clean environment every time, and we can quickly create a standard service based on the implementation of container and the excellent image management.

CSDN: What is the biggest difficulty of enterprise application container at present?

Feng Honglin: Container is a revolutionary technology that will have a tremendous impact on software development, deployment, and maintenance. For businesses, using Docker instead of their existing workflows is not easy, but rather a rather complex task, and can be time-consuming. No matter how great the technology Docker will develop in the future, it is still a fairly new technology for the enterprise, and its related ecological environment is not perfect. It all takes time to wait for the technology and ecological environment to mature.

Shao: As far as I know, at present the popularity of virtualization technology in China is not very high, driven by open source virtualization technology such as OpenStack, many enterprises are just beginning to join the virtualization camp, so let alone understand the container technology. Hope to use the promotion of Docker, can help more people understand container technology bring convenience and efficiency, let more people into the container world.

CSDN: According to your understanding, what is the current situation of container development?

Feng Honglin, Shao: Container related technologies in the IT world are likely to be the de facto standard for software distribution and deployment. At present, more and more programs are beginning to "containerized", and this trend is accelerating. At present, container is still in the early stages of development, but in the next 1-2 years, we will see amazing growth, not only in quantity, but also in breadth. With the passage of time, container related technology, the characteristics will be more and more mature, then should be able to see container technology in the large-scale application of enterprises.

CSDN: Would you like to talk about the topics you will share at this conference?

Feng Honglin, Shao: Container technology is a remarkable technological innovation. Thanks to a project like Docker, we've seen innovations in cloud computing that were unimaginable before. Many of us have heard of or learned about IaaS and PaaS, and IaaS provides us with more flexibility, but at the same time brings management complexity. PAAs is easy to use and requires no complex management, but at the cost of losing flexibility, programs must follow the programming specifications provided by the PAAs platform. and CaaS (Container as a Service) has just solved the shortcomings of both, combining their strengths. Because the container is used to host the running environment, we do not have to make any restrictions on the programming language, the framework, and thus the flexibility of IaaS, while the program can be as easy to deploy and maintain as the PAAs platform.

CSDN: Which listeners should know these topics best? What topics can you share to help your audience solve problems?

Feng Honglin, Shao: The topic is mainly for program developers, operators, system administrators and virtualization technology enthusiasts. Because container-related technologies involve all aspects of it, it is important to understand and familiarize yourself with the concepts (CaaS, Container Cloud, orchestration as a server, etc.). Mastering these topics can help related roles to better utilize container technology to speed up the development process in their work, and to simplify related maintenance work.

more questions about supporting container's cloud computing technology, please Docker Community FAQ post, Feng Honglin and Shao will answer online.

A new ecology is rapidly forming. This time we are in sync with the world. To better understand the topic, we conducted a series of in-depth interviews with lecturers, and quickly built a container micro-letter Discussion Group (invited) consisting of hands-on businesses and lecturers, who will gradually invite lecturers to answer online questions in the Docker technology community and the Dcoker Technology Forum.

"Container lecturer" beijing-based: Application and evolution of container technology in cloud foundry

"Container lecturer" cloud Mao Wenbo: Network Virtualization and SDN implementation Docker connectivity

"Container lecturer" Sohu Ushenge: Container application Practice in Sohu PAAs platform

"Container lecturer" Tencent Liu Yong: The challenges and opportunities faced by the public cloud in the Docker era

"Container lecturer" Chinese Academy of Sciences Li Mingyu: and rather different--openstack&docker

"Container lecturer" Red Hat Cai: About Docker performance

Before, in the meeting, after the meeting. We strive to cover Docker whole ecology, I believe that October 18 2014 Container Technical Congress (Container conference 2014) invited more than 10 lecturers will be able to speak deeply, Provide practical help to developers who aspire to innovate in Docker technology.
