As part of the real World Windows Azure interview series, my Soluto founder Tomer dvir on how Windows Azure helped them in winning TechCrunch Disrupt's hosting server environment expanded to millions of downloads for interviews after the championship. Read Soluto's success story here. Here is the interview:
Himanshu Kumar Singh: Please give a brief introduction to the idea behind Soluto.
Tomer Dvir:ishay Green is also one of the founders, and during adolescence I began to work on software programming. In 2008, we started a business and created Soluto to help PC users manage their windows-based computers with their friends and family through the Web site. As technology becomes more and more popular, we want to help people use computers to do more things and enjoy the process. And we want to do this in Tel Aviv, where it can be an innovation center.
HKS: When did you start Soluto?
td:2010 May We launched Soluto on the TechCrunch disrupt of the world it start-up company. Everyone on TechCrunch is talking about Facebook and Twitter apps, and we're showing things about PCs. But the idea that Soluto can help people to use technology while being happier is resonating. Soluto won the game and we quickly became an international ideological leader, with global media rushing to report, the New York Times, CNN and the BBC.
HKS: What impact did winning the competition have on your business?
TD: In the one months after TechCrunch Disrupt, about 1 million people downloaded Soluto. People use Soluto to collect information about the PCs they work on and then analyze and render that data for use when managing other PCs, which requires a lot of computing. We support Soluto with a managed environment that runs SQL Server and Amazon Web services, but cannot cope with unexpected demands. Our service environment cannot be extended fast enough. We need a better, more flexible solution, but we still want to avoid huge it investment risks.
HKS: How did you do that?
TD: We want to use cloud computing technology on applications. The prospect of moving an online application to the cloud will be a challenge, and we quickly conclude that using Windows Azure to support Soluto is most effective. Because we can leverage platform services rather than just infrastructure (like storage) and use familiar tools like. NET and Microsoft Visual Studio, we know that using Windows Azure is faster than using Amazon or other cloud computing services to get into the market.
HKS: How do you use Windows Azure?
Td:soluto users connect to Windows Azure through a Web browser, using Soluto to observe what's not working on their PCs and allowing people to take simple security measures, and to do more with their devices. Each PC added to the service starts sending out unhealthy reports and about what is available on the PC. Using data from all agents to compute statistics and detect patterns--soluto help people make better decisions by displaying data in a collection.
HKS: What can users do with Soluto?
Td:soluto users can learn about PC problems remotely, add updates, or install applications, usually by clicking a few clicks without requiring any user action. I can update my mother's Skype from my side, open her firewall or install Dropbox on her computer. If her computer is turned off, the command will be saved on Windows Azure and the command is executed when she turns on the computer.
Soluto uses Windows Azure Storage to save PC data and deliver it to users, using data processing from other machines. Soluto users generate millions of of data transactions a day, making Soluto one of the largest consumers of Windows Azure resources in the world's start-up companies.
HKS: What are the benefits of using Windows Azure?
TD: A platform that serves services (such as Tablestorage, Compute) allows us to quickly develop components that are easy to expand without considering the "pipes" behind them. With up to 300,000 transactions per day, the team can quickly expand Windows Azure to avoid any interruption of service.
After migrating to Windows Azure, our business grew rapidly. In early 2012, applications had 3 million downloads. With Windows Azure, we have complete flexibility and unlimited scalability to meet any peak users need.
HKS: What do you think of Windows Azure as compared to other cloud computing services?
TD: The platform that serves is its biggest advantage. Windows Azure does not just run the infrastructure of the operating system, it also provides services. There's no need to think about how those services work in the background (even if we're curious to learn – we're geeks after all ...). )。 In addition, you don't need to learn new development tools or build a service infrastructure, so you can focus on the unique value we offer.
What is Hks:soluto going to do next?
TD: We are still constantly improving the user experience and adding more value to people to bring more pleasant feelings. With Windows Azure, we have the ability and the flexibility to serve global users while maintaining our worldwide attention to the industry. With Windows Azure, we can handle hundreds of megabytes of data. Frees up our growth potential and gives us the flexibility to observe market evolution, learn from customers, refine products, and develop profitability models.
