Hortonworks announces a Hadoop data platform

Hortonworks, founded in July 2011 by Yahoo! and Benchmark Capital, announced a technology preview of a data platform based on Hadoop. The company employs the core of many Hadoop projects to provide appropriate support and training.

Shortly after IBM announced a large data analysis platform based on Hadoop, a new but very important role--hortonworks began to play, and the Hortonworks data platform (hdp,hortonworks Platform) Technology Preview version of the ad, HDP is an open source based on the Apache Hadoop data analysis System.

In addition to Hadoop 0.20.205, HDP 1.0 includes several open source projects to enhance the management capabilities of its platform, such as: Ambari, an open source installation and management system. Hcatalog, a metadata management system, in addition to some common with the Hadoop platform used in combination, Pig, Hive, HBase and zookeeper. Over the next few weeks, Hortonworks plans to release the HDP 2.0 version of Hadoop 0.23, a version of Hadoop that implements the next generation of MapReduce.

In the fierce market environment, compared with other competitors Hortonworks has its own advantages. Born in a well-connected yahoo!,hortonworks with many Hadoop architects and source code contributors, these source-code contributors have previously worked for Yahoo!, and have contributed more than 80% of the source code for the Apache Hadoop project, Hortonworks said. These engineers also contribute to a number of other projects in the distributed domain, such as hcatalog, Ambari, and pig, and have been involved in the experience of running Hadoop in 40,000 server-scale clusters.

Hortonworks promised not to create a branch product of Hadoop, but instead continued to contribute code to the Apache project for the rest of the day. They have shown interest in the development of the Hadoop project, which has been growing. Their business model is the analysis of large data, according to the customer's attention to provide appropriate support and training. In addition, Microsoft is now a Hortonworks customer and has claimed to be supporting Windows Azure with Hadoop.

The technology Preview version of the Hortonworks data platform is currently available only for limited businesses and is expected to enter the public preview version by early 2012, when a public version is released.
