Windows Intune is an online service hosted by Microsoft. This service is intended primarily for enterprise users, providing support for day-to-day management and security monitoring of Windows PCs (including virtual machines) in the enterprise. It is hosted entirely by Microsoft's data center and can provide management of any number of computers.

It is reported that the predecessor of Windows Intune is the system Center Online Desktop Manager (SCODM), which Microsoft has never released. Microsoft provided beta versions of the service to 1000 midsize enterprise customers and partners in April 2010. In September 2010, Microsoft told users involved in the test that the beta Intune would no longer be open to new users, and that the company would only provide subsequent beta versions to specific test users, after which Microsoft had never released the beta Intune of a public version.

Windows Intune is also a server/client mode (c/s), except that the server is in Microsoft, so the enterprise IT administrator who uses this service can do management in addition to the client. For the enterprise, such a deployment process is no obstacle (currently in the testing phase, the installation steps are likely to change) in the Http://www.microsoft.com/online/windowsintunebeta.aspx page registration. After the application is passed, the administrator can log on to the Windows Intune service based on the address provided in the message, and then download the client as prompted

Install the downloaded client installation package as prompted, and then deploy the client to the managed PC to begin the experience after the installation is complete. If the client deployment of a managed PC fails, it is easy to see why the deployment failed on the Intune cloud management interface.

As an All-in-one service system, Windows Intune is designed to manage 25 to 500 desktop PCs for patch management, malware protection, PC active monitoring, Remote Assistance, tracking hardware and software catalogs, and security policy implementation. Windows Intune Cloud computing services can not only help users save the hassle of deploying hardware, but can also be updated in a timely manner. As long as it is networked, it is possible to manage other machines from any machine.

Microsoft says Windows Intune can help IT professionals manage and secure PCs anytime, anywhere, including two key components, on-premises windows and Windows Management tools, and an online management and security service. The company plans to formally launch the Windows Intune Cloud Management Service in 35 countries around the world on March 23.

Windows Intune features briefly:

System Overview

The system overview lets you view the state of a managed computer to assess the overall health of the managed computer, check for alerts to investigate important issues that need attention, run reports, and create computer groups. Trial experience: If the "one malware instance is located on a computer" alert is found, simply click the link to view more detailed information, which makes it easier and clearer to find out the malware and do the relevant operations.

Computer

Here we can create and manage computer groups, view status summaries and details, search for computers, and view a list of computers. In this case, I divide the managed PCs into groups, such as the "Technology PC" group here, to see the 4 computers inside and their status information. We can also click on one of the computers directly to see more detailed information about the computer.

Update

In this interface, we can manage the software update process for the managed PCs. For example, we can bulk approve some updates (click the Approval button)

Malware Protection

This feature helps protect a managed PC from potential threats by leveraging client-side real-time protection as well as malicious software to define automatic scans and updates. After you install Intune, the Windows Intune malware Protection Program is automatically installed, using the same engine as Microsoft Security Essentials, Forefront Endpoint homeowner.

Software

You can view a list of installed programs on a managed computer and sort the manifests. The software shown here is a collection of all computer software listings, where you can also see which computers have installed the software by clicking on a specific software name.

License and Policy

You can upload the Microsoft Software License Terms information to Microsoft Volume Licensing Service (MVLS) here and verify that the appropriate Microsoft software is licensed. This policy feature, although not as powerful as Group Policy, can not control many PC Group Policy settings, but also meet simple PC management requirements, if you want to have Group Policy, please spend 1 dollars to buy the MDOP tool set Plug-ins.

Reporting and management

Currently, there are three broad categories of reports that can be generated-updating reports, software reports, and license reports. Through the Intune management interface, download the latest client software from here, manage administrator accounts, configure update classifications, automatic approval rules, and alert notification rules, where you can let Intune notify the administrator of the alert in the form of a message, You can also allow Intune to automatically approve certain updates to some computer groups based on the rules you create, and add multiple Intune console administrators that basically meet the needs of your PC's day-to-day management and reporting processes.
