KeywordsVisual design social networking sites Pinterest social sharing
It's a bit outdated to keep your own design or visual art pictures in private albums, or even put them on the shelf, just as you did before.
Pinterest is a social directory site based on visual image sharing, founded by three members of the cold Brew Labs, a start-up firm in Palo, Calif., and was launched in early 2010.
1. Operating mode
It looks like a wall that can give you an infinite amount of inspiration, and a neat nail (pin) on the wall is full of images that are visually stunning. With a nail plate (pinboards), each board is like an inspiration wall, an album, but not private. You can pin your favorite collection on the board, others can follow you (equivalent to follow all your nails), or you can follow a specific nail plate. For a particular picture on the wall, the user can choose "like" or "Repin" to his own wall of inspiration.
Pinterest's introduction of social elements such as follow, like and repin means that individuals will have a wider space to share and will be more likely to feast on themselves. However, for social elements, blindly "bring" is not necessarily good. At this point, Pinterest is doing well. For a social networking site with high quality content (visual images) and a high quality user base, Pinterest only needs you to follow someone and not to block someone; Pinterest only need you like a picture, but to its vote is superfluous. 140 word limit? Come on, everyone is looking at the picture, who wants to say more? So why bother to limit it?
As a social networking site, Pinterest the user's vision-sharing hobby into the pinnacle. Each user is no longer the only user of its nail plate, nor does it have its own nail plate. The entire community will share the nails of each user, as well as everyone else.
Unfortunately, current sharing is limited to site users. In the mobile terminal, the official has not provided a dedicated application, so that users better and more convenient to share and discover.
In addition to the application of mobile terminals, everything in Pinterest looks beautiful, as beautifully as its inspiration wall. But the beautiful thing also has its survival foundation. Pinterest need to think about the following two questions.
2. Profit model
A profit model is something that any entrepreneur must explore. It is a thankless task to do a community based on pictures. Flickr created the Web 2.0 "album show" era, users only need to pay, there is enough space to store their own pictures, there is a chance to like others "show" picture. Enterprises use the money paid by users to provide space for users, this profit model is clearly visible. But for Pinterest, a site that has no social value, free is just a way to burn money. Therefore, the question of how to make a profit is imminent after the user has been made happy.
3. Competitors
A market, a competitor is a good thing. Similar sites with Pinterest have Wanelo and svpply. The former is a picture-bookmarking tool based on sharing. The user likes the product to appear in the form of a picture, the user can save it, also can buy the product directly. It can be seen that the profits come directly from this business. The latter is similar to the profit model, but also directly from the user purse.
The difference between the two and the Pinterest is that the latter share the price of the product, used to sell. The latter two can help users to buy and sell products, nature is how to give users benefits. and Pinterest sharing is all visually interesting and beautiful things, there is no good or bad points. Therefore, Pinterest not help users to make money, they have not explored the profit model.
