Investment in mission-critical applications has made commercial UNIX users more doubtful about using the public cloud, but they are developing private cloud http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/13748.html "> The infrastructure is passionate, hoping to get a return on the new technology.

According to a recent survey of UNIX data center managers and employees, only 27% of UNIX users are using the public cloud to enrich their infrastructure, says Dan Oregon State, founder and chief analyst at the Beaverton Consulting Group in the city of San Gabriel, where 65% UNIX users did not use the public cloud, and 9% of users expressed uncertainty.

However, Odysseus also said 50% of respondents said they were building their own private cloud infrastructure, with 35% of UNIX users not planning to develop a private cloud, and 15% of users were unsure.

The research report covers feedback from 306 corporate users around the world who rely on business UNIX environments for their mission-critical applications. But their feedback also reflects their overall infrastructure's cloud plans, not specifically focused on their UNIX infrastructure, "says Odysseus."

Despite the hype surrounding cloud computing, business users accustomed to UNIX environments remain sceptical about the technology, says Odysseus.

But while keeping the public cloud at a distance, UNIX enterprise users are building private clouds. "90% of respondents said Unix was a strategic platform for them," says Odysseus. More than half of commercial UNIX users say their 75% to 100% apps are mission-critical. As a result, these UNIX enterprise users are understandably afraid to try the public cloud too easily.

There is no reason for such an enterprise not to use AIX or HP-UX or Solaris public cloud, "said Odysseus." "But that doesn't improve the level of demand that Amazon offers." They have their own choice. Their databases and ERP applications run on the public cloud. But their availability and security requirements make the range of choices narrower.

In fact, more than half of the respondents were not surprised to choose a private cloud infrastructure, said Odysseus. "The private cloud is essentially a combination of virtualization and good it practices." Developers can be allowed to focus on their resources in the resource pool. The technology to achieve this has already appeared. "

Looking ahead, Odysseus says he wants commercial UNIX users to focus on developing different kinds of private clouds, or running on their unix, windows, Linux, and mainframe servers.

"When users or developers need resources, they have a choice, and a cloud mechanism can provide any resources on the cloud," says Odysseus.
