Opendaylight Open Source http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/13868.html "> Software definition Network [note] (sdn[note]) project was founded under the sponsorship of the Linux Foundation, The project launched its first open source version of ――hydrogen in less than a year, and after one months of release, Opendaylight has been rolling out a later version of ――helium.

At the SDN Building module Group Meeting of the Open Networking Summit (ONS) held on March 3, Opendaylight Technical liaison Phil Robb briefed the participants on some of helium's details.

The importance of collaborative development

Before the formal Shao Jie began, Robb spent a few minutes Shao Jie the status of Opendaylight. He pointed out that in the interpretation of the Opendaylight project, the most important thing is "collaborative development projects." He said that there is basically no much collaboration in the Internet industry, collaborative development is a new concept, but the new concept has begun to sprout.

"If you gather a lot of technical experts in one place, then these experts will try to find a better technology." Robb points out that open source development refers to technical experts working together to develop the best technology.

The goal of Opendaylight is to develop a spirit of collaboration to achieve the ambitious goals of the SDN platform and associated components that allow them to be applied to the actual production environment in all use cases. The project is now growing and moving towards that goal. Robb said the Opendaylight community already has more than 150 contributors and is submitting about 100 times a week, a data that is still growing. "The community has many people from different fields," he said. ”

Progress of opendaylight Helium

Robb said that the model-driven service abstraction [note] layer would play a key role in Opendaylight SDN, which could be automated to reduce human intervention and man-made errors. At the same time, automation can also help provide better consistency for both the South and the north.

Currently, two projects have been adopted by helium. Among them, Dlux (opendaylight user experience) is designed to enhance the user experience with a graphical user interface with more drag-and-drop capabilities; Group Policy plug-ins (groups Policy Plugin) can provide a better experience than affinity in the strategically focused north-to API.

In addition, many projects have been proposed, but have not yet been adopted. For example:

Fibre Channel Sans

Logical Exchange Abstraction

DPDK VSwitch

Python Opendaylight Client

Packet Cable PCMM Management End

Dynamic Resource Reservation

Dynamic traffic Management

SDN Simulation Platform

Data persistence

XMPP Plugin

Robb also points out that integration is important. Open source must "be able to easily add new features." "To support this idea, opendaylight is working to improve the level of automation in the testing process." Test automation is an excellent part of the infrastructure and the most advanced Open source project, and is critical to opendaylight. In addition, the strategy and the North interface are of great significance in helium.

Clusters are also to be discussed in the Opendaylight project. Robb raised two points: "Are you going to continue to create a clustered environment through a single network logic view, or do you connect islands through an east-west protocol?" The community is looking forward to a discussion on this issue at the moment.

Opendaylight Helium Release date

Although the Opendaylight project has not finalized helium's release date, there is widespread speculation that the release date could be August. According to Robb, the release date is likely to be announced within the next 2-3 weeks. He suggested that it would be best to focus on Wikipedia's update on the Opendaylight project.

At the same time, Robb also made some suggestions for SDN developers eager to join Opendaylight. The Opendaylight laboratory provided by Ericsson can provide Opendaylight network environment and field guidance experts for integration, testing and validation work.
