IE7 has added support for RSS. The core part of IE7's support for this function is the Windows RSS platform (Windows RSS platform), which provides the basic components of the RSS function so that RSS can serve all desktop applications.Program. For Microsoft products, IE7 and Outlook 2007 use these basic components to increase RSS support (this feature is also used in Windows Sidebar ).
IE7 is the first application of this platform. It is automatically added to the system when IE7 is installed, IE7 only uses some of the features to implement a lightweight RSS subscription function:
1. The RSS icon appears when the accessed page contains feeds.
2. Subscription: click this icon to view the preview of the feed, and then click to subscribe.
3. Management: you can manage the feed through favorites, and the feed will be displayed in bold when it is updated.
4. Synchronization: You can synchronize the feed in IE7 and office Outlook 2007.
Because no server back-end manages network utilization, microsoft has implemented RSS in such a way within Windows IE7 that update cycles for RSS feeds will alter themselves and not check for feed updates precisely as specified by users (e.g ., something set for might actually synchronize ). this "salting the interval" will disperse the checking of feed updates into SS large numbers of users. also, Windows IE7 will not look at a site when it knows that the site has not been updated (based on the RSS file information ). the Download engine within the Windows RSS platform also registrdes several capabilities, outlined here, that improve network usage.
Microsoft uses this mode: In IE7, there is a loop update mechanism, which does not rely on the user to manually trigger the check for updates, in addition, feeds that are not updated based on the RSS mechanism will not be checked. All these checks are distributed so that they do not occupy too much bandwidth.
Note that Outlook 2007 does not rely on the window RSS platform, but implements its own mechanism. However, it can synchronize feeds with IE7, in this way, you can use one tool to subscribe to the feed, while using other tools to read.
Windows RSS platform consists of three parts: common feed list, feed synchronization engine, and feed storage system ). The feed subscribed by IE7 can be shared by other applications through the universal feed list, and then synchronized through the synchronization engine.
Windows RSS platform greatly simplifies the work of developers. Developers do not even need to go to deep learning RSS formats, synchronization schedules, and enclosure downloads ), or even XML. It is provided to developers:
1. Supports most RSS and atom formats and most popular extensions
2. Background task update
3. Supports conditional gets and RFC 3229 standard technologies
4. Use the Background Intelligent transmission service to provide a better bandwidth usage (bandwidth-friendly enclosure downloads)
5. API provides a simple object model and direct access to the original XML Stream
