Browser 5. Using Meta data metadata

This section may be of no practical use to general Photoshop users, so if you feel the same way, you can skip this section. This section may be more helpful to professionals such as graphic designers and publishers.

The so-called metadata metadata refers to some information about the file, such as the author of the picture file, resolution, color space, copyright information, key words and so on. The use of metadata enables the processing and organization of files to become process-structured. Metadata uses the XMP (extensible Metadata Platform, extensible metadata Platform) standard for standardized storage. In most cases, information is stored in a file so that information is not lost. If the information cannot be stored in the file itself, the XMP metadata will store it in a separate file called "Sidecar." In other words, metadata is the data that describes another kind of data, that is, the information listed above. In the publishing industry, this information, though not published, has nothing to do with readers, but it has a great use in the publishing workflow, especially in Cross-media publishing and copyright management.

Note: XMP is an xml-based open framework that standardizes the creation and content processing of Cross-media publishing workflows, and as an open standard it has been recognized by many companies, primarily for embedding, tracking, and exchanging metadata for more efficient use of content across the media. Not only does Adobe build XMP standards within its own applications, but it also recommends embedding them in files in JPEG, TIFF, GIF, PNG, EPS, XML, HTML, and other formats to facilitate the implementation of Cross-media publishing workflows and content processing.

Bridge's many powerful features allow users to use XMP metadata to organize, search for files, and understand file information and versions. Bridge provides two ways to process metadata: one through the metadata panel and one through the File Information dialog box. In both of these ways, there are different ways to view the XMP metadata that is stored in a file. In some cases, the same property can be viewed differently, for example, a property labeled "Author" can be found in "Creator", which is essentially consistent.

The introduction of metadata first to here, if you want to get more information, you can refer to bridge's help. Let's take a look at some of the operations on metadata.

  ① View metadata meta data

Select one or more files, and then you can view the metadata in the metadata panel, as shown in Figure 27.

You can also use the menu "file" → "file info" to open the File Information dialog box shown in Figure 28 to view meta data information. Notice the "Powered by XMP" in the lower-left corner?

② edit or add metadata meta data

It is easy to edit or add metadata metadata in bridge, and you may be able to edit the information directly by clicking an attribute in the metadata shown in Figure 27. In the File Information dialog box shown in Figure 28, enter directly in the input box or select from the Drop-down list.

③ Specify the metadata to display in the metadata panel

In the metadata panel, you can display a very wide variety of meta data types. If you only care about a few, you can customize the metadata shown here to show only what you care about. The method uses the menu "Edit" → "Preferences" to open the Preferences dialog box, and then in the Metadata category, select the item you want, as shown in Figure 29. The bottom of the "Hide Empty Fields" is selected by default, and blank fields without content are not displayed, and to be displayed, you need to deselect the check box.

  ④ using meta data templates

If you often create different works, you want to save your information to the file in the metadata, then you can build your own template, as long as there are new works, apply this template.

   To create a metadata template

Step one: Create a new file using any of the applications in the Adobe Creative Suite so that the file does not contain any metadata information. Take Photoshop CS2 as an example, create an image file called "metadata. PSD" that can have content or no content.

Step two: In the Photoshop CS2 select menu "file" → "File info" (or select the menu "file" → "file info" After selecting this file in Adobe Bridge), open the File Information dialog box, you will find that the dialog box is blank.

The third step: In the File Information dialog box to enter their own work related information.

Step Fourth: Click the small rightwards arrow in the upper-right corner of the File Information dialog box, select the command "Save Metadata Template" (Save the metadata template) in the pop-up menu, and enter the name of the metadata template in the dialog box that pops up, and then click the Save button. The template file is saved to the documents and Settings\lidongbo\application data\adobe\xmp\metadata templates directory in the partition where Windows is located, with the extension XML. Just click the small arrow in the upper right corner of the File Information dialog box and select command "Show Templates" to open the folder.

   To apply a metadata template

Once you have created a metadata template, you can apply the template to other works that you create later.

First step: Select one or more image files in Adobe Bridge to which you want to apply the template.

Step Two: Click the arrow in the upper-right corner of the metadata panel or use the Tools menu to see the following two commands, using one of them to apply the template to the file.

    • Append Metadata: Add Metadata, you can use this command if there is no Metadata in the currently selected file.
    • Replace Metadata: Replaces Metadata with Metadata in the template to completely replace any Metadata metadata that already exists in the file.

⑤ add keywords to a file

Using the Keywords panel can add keywords to the file, keyword can be used to identify and organize documents based on content, you can organize keywords together to form a keyword set (keyword sets), you can also create a file group for multiple files with the same keyword. The Visible keyword is still more useful.

Keyword/keyword set add, delete, rename, find, etc. can be in bridge in the keywords panel in the upper-right corner of the pop-up menu to complete the small arrow, the specific method no longer repeat.

  6. Adobe Stock Photos

Through Adobe Bridge, you can access a new service called Adobe Stock photos from five different vendors (PhotoDisc, Comstock, Digitalvision, Imageshop, Amana). As long as your computer is connected to the Internet, you can connect to the home page of this service by clicking Adobe Stock Photos in the "Favorites" Panel in Bridge, as shown in Figure 30. In the search box above the home page, you can enter keywords to search for a picture.
