Appendix 11. Windows Firewall Service

1.1 Concept of the firewall

A firewall (Firewall) firewall can be composed of hardware and software devices, a protective barrier is constructed between the internal network and the interface between the internal network and the external network.

A firewall is actually an isolation technique in which the firewall performs an access control scale when communication occurs between the two networks. That is, according to the pre-set rules, always check the access to the firewall all packets, decide to intercept or release which packets.

According to the direction of the firewall interception, can be divided into inbound rules and outbound rules. Inbound rules block or allow packets from specific programs or ports to enter, and outbound rules block or allow packets from specific programs or ports to be sent out.

1.2 Windows Firewall Service

Windows comes with a service called Windows Firewall, which is Windows Firewall.

For products prior to Windows Server 2008 (or Vista), Windows no longer provides firewall functionality if the Windows Firewall service is stopped.

Windows Server 2008 (or Vista) and subsequent products use strict security policies, and Windows blocks all inbound and outbound packets if the Windows Firewall service is stopped.

1.3 Disabling the Firewall

Although you cannot stop the Windows Firewall service, you can turn off its firewall functionality.

In the Control Panel, open system and Security, and then click Windows Firewall. On the use Windows firewall to help protect your computer page, displays the current network location (that is, the network area to which the network is connected) and the current firewall's control status for those locations.

Select "Turn Windows Firewall on or off" in the list on the left. On the Customize settings for each type of network page, you can set the state of the firewall for class three network locations, respectively.
