How to disable SSD hard disk indexing in Windows 8

Fault symptom:

Windows 8 indexing is an underlying service in Windows that provides quick search for files, documents, and emails. In addition to setting up a set of index data on the hard disk during the first running, the index service starts whenever the file changes or new files are added, this is why many of my friends complain that their computers often find the main cause of hard drive conversion (of course, there are other causes of hard drive conversion ).

Cause analysis:

The benefits of disabling Windows 8 indexes for SSD SSDs are obvious: SSD SSDs are fast but have a much lower lifetime, generally only 6000 ~ 10000 full-disk writes (mechanical hard disks work for about 0.1 million consecutive hours ). Therefore, if you do not search a lot at ordinary times, you can close the index to allow the system to temporarily search. This will greatly extend the life of SSD. With the high random read performance of the SSD hard drive, the temporary search is not much slower than the index, but it is of great benefit for SSD lifetime maintenance.

Solution:

1. Open the control panel and select "system and security", as shown in the following figure:

 

 

2. Select" Management Tools", As shown in the following figure:

 

 

3. Select" Service", As shown in the following figure:

 

 

4. Select" Windows Search Service"Disable it and set it to disabled, as shown in the following figure:

 

 

Note:
With the above settings, we disabled the indexing service for the Windows 8 system using SSD, which can greatly prolong the SSD usage time.

If you are using a non-SSD hard drive, you can disable the index service, so that the hard drive indicator will not flash for no reason.
