Installation parameters of Windows Update programs

To block system vulnerabilities in a short period of time, Microsoft not only releases an upgrade package named "Service Pack", but also occasionally releases some updates. Program For example, there are 6 Windows XP update programs released in March. To improve installation efficiency or meet special needs of some users, Microsoft has designed some installation parameters for the update program. The following uses the Windows XP update program as an example to introduce its installation parameters and usage.

Update program installation parameters

The installation parameters of Windows XP update programs are divided into three types listed in the following table. In addition, there is a parameter "/L" that lists the installed update programs, and an update program decompression parameter "-X ". The following three tables list the installation parameters and their usage:

In addition to using parameters listed above, the update procedure allows you to use parameters in simplified mode. For example,/F: forces other applications to close when shutdown,/N: Give up backup and unmount the files required by the update program,/Z: Do not restart the system after the update program is installed, /Q: Use quiet mode to install the update program./u: Use unattended mode to install the update program.

Tips for updating program parameters

The updated program parameters can be reasonably used according to the actual situation to meet some special needs during the installation process. The following describes several specific examples:

1. decompress the update program

Assuming that the name of a Windows XP update program is a WindowsXP-KB896428-x86-CHS, if you need to decompress it and then install it, you can open the Windows XP Command Prompt window, switch to the location where the update program is stored, enter WindowsXP-KB896428-x86-CHS-X at the prompt ". Click the "Browse" button in the pop-up box to select the file storage location. After "OK", the "extracting files" dialog box is displayed, after the update, all files in the update program are released to the specified location.

In addition to using a command prompt window, you can also open the run dialog box for Windows XP, where you enter "E: \ BD \ WindowsXP-KB896428-x86-CHS-X" (E: \ BD is the folder for storing the update program). After "OK", you can decompress the update program to the specified location.

2. List Update Directories

Before installing the update program, it is necessary to know how many "patches" the system has installed. Using the/L parameter can help us understand the installed updates. We only need to select an update program, and add the/L parameter in the Command Prompt window or the "run" dialog box according to the method described above, you can see that the system installs the update program in the dialog box. Note that only updates installed in the latest version of the Service Pack package can be listed, excluding updates in the service pack.

Tip: to obtain the printable update program directory, open the Command Prompt window and enter "systeminfo> systeminfo.txt" to generate a file named systeminfo.txt in the current directory, which not only displays the updated program information installed by the system, the main configuration information of other systems is also recorded.

3. Install update programs in batches

If you download a large number of update programs and manually install them one by one, you must not only run them one by one, but also answer questions such as whether to restart or not. It is very cumbersome to install updates for multiple computers. In this case, you can create a script (or "batch processing") file to install all the updates at a time. First, copy the update program to a folder (for example, E: \ Hotfix), and enter "Notepad" for the content of the script file in the following format ".

@ Echo off

Set pathtofixes = E: \ Hotfix

% Pathtofixes % \ WindowsXP-KB890859-x86-CHS/Z

% Pathtofixes % \ WindowsXP-KB890923-x86-CHS/Z

% Pathtofixes % \ WindowsXP-KB893066-x86-CHS/Z

The "e: \ Hotfix" in the file should be modified according to the storage location of the update program. Each added or removed update program in the "E: \ Hotfix" folder, A statement such as '% pathtofixes % \ WindowsXP-KB890859-x86-CHS/Z' will increase (or decrease) One, you also need to modify the updated program name (for example, WindowsXP-KB890859-x86-CHS) in the statement based on the name of the updated program "). To use other update program parameters, simply add the required parameters after the update program name in the script file, such as "% pathtofixes % \ WindowsXP-KB890923-x86-CHS/z/Q/forceappsclose.

After entering the script file, click the "Save as" command under the "Notepad" and "file" menu, and enter bdaz. CMD and other names (the script file name "bdaz" is arbitrary and the extension must be. CMD or. BAT ). After saving the script file, open the Command Prompt window and switch to the "bdaz. in the command prompt, enter "bdaz" and press enter to update the batch Installation Process of the program.

Tip: After you use the script to install the update program in batches, you must restart the operating system to make the installed update take effect. Because the update program structure of Windows 2000/2003 is the same as that of Windows XP, the method described in this article can also be used in Windows 2000/2003.
