Mio: Win CE on board
Many PNDS (personal navigation device personal navigation devices) use Windows CE as the operating system, but this platform is not customized for this purpose. To meet the needs of equipment manufacturers, Microsoft recently announced that it will customize the Win CE embedded system navready 2009, which should be the first embedded system designed for GPS devices.
One of the highlights of navready 2009 is the support for Bluetooth. Microsoft integrated this technology to support a variety of customized portable peripherals, bringing users a new operation experience. In addition, a program called "desktop-pass-through" allows a program running on a device to synchronize data through a Windows PC through wireless connection.
Of course, Microsoft will bind the livesearch and MSN applications on this system.
Many GPs All-in-One manufacturers use Windows CE, but currently the two leaders in this market, tomtom and Garmin, mainly support Linux or proprietary systems (note: currently, Garmin can run on PPC/SP, but it still lacks ce support ). As a mobile phone operating system, wm5/wm6 is actually an extension of Ce. The customized navready 2009, as a Windows CE specialized PNDS operating system, will certainly bring different experiences to users.
In this way, PNDS software/hardware vendors have the opportunity to upgrade their users.
