The features of Windows XP network are more powerful, not only can users use the shared folders provided by the system, but they can also set up their own shared folders and share their folders with other users.
The shared Documents that are provided by the system are named "Shared," and you can see the shared folder in the My Computer dialog box by double-clicking the My Computer icon. If a user wants to set a file or folder to be shared, select the file or folder and drag it to the Shared Documents share folder.
Set the user's own shared folders as follows:
(1) Select the folder where you want to set up the share.
(2) Select the "file" ∣ "sharing" command, or right-click, and select "Share" from the pop-up shortcut menu.
(3) Open the Sharing tab in the Properties dialog box, as shown in Figure 3.7.
(4) Select the Share this folder on the Network check box, when the Share Name text box and the Allow other users to change my files check box become available. The user can change the name of the shared folder in the Share Name text box, and if you clear the Allow other users to change my files check box, other users can only see the contents of the shared folder and cannot modify it.
(5) After setting, click the "Apply" button and the "OK" button.
Note: The name you change in the Share Name text box is the name that other users will see when they connect to the shared folder, and the actual name of the folder does not change.
