In the Windows 98 operating system, configuring the network is cumbersome and requires a restart after each setting, which is a lot of inconvenience to many home internet users. With shared access, the Windows 98 operating system has many limitations and is inconvenient to use, and in Windows XP operating systems, all this is easy. Below we will specifically look at the dual network card sharing how to set up the Internet.

Dual NIC Internet sharing includes hardware connection and software setup two steps. Here, the hardware connection in two WINDOWS98 system dual-computer internet sharing has been introduced in detail, here is no longer false, there is a need to understand the user can refer to that article. Generally we need to go through the following steps to achieve two installed Windows XP operating system to achieve dual network card sharing.

1, set up the host Internet Internet.

At present, most telecom operators use PPPoE dial-up to achieve the management of broadband users, in Windows 98, if you want to implement the PPPoE dial-up function, need to use the PPPoE dial-up software, unlike the Windows 98 operating system, Windows XP integrates this functionality into the operating system, which makes it easier for broadband users to set up dial-up connections.

After each part of the hardware is connected, we need to make some setup on the host that connects the Internet line, so that the host can realize the Internet function first.

First, right click on the desktop of the "Network Neighborhood" icon to select the "Properties" option, at this point, will pop up the following network connection interface. In the Network connection setup interface, let's say that we have installed the drivers for the two network adapters correctly, and the local Area Connection icon appears under LAN or High speed Internet.

Network Neighborhood Properties Interface

In the network-connected interface, the "Network Tasks" section on the left includes "create a new Connection" "Set up a home or small office network" and "Change Windows Firewall Settings" Three parts, here we click "Create a new connection option, will pop up the following dialog box." Click "Next" to continue.

Create a new Connection wizard

When you click Next, the "Network Connection Type" dialog box pops up, where we need to select "Connect to the Internet" option. Select to continue with the configuration.

Network Connection Wizard

In this interface we select the second item, "Set my connection manually".

Select connection mode

In the PPPoE dialing method, we need a telecom operator to provide the username and password to verify, so in the next interface, we select the "User name and password for the broadband connection" option.

Connect with a broadband connection that requires a username and password

In the next dialog, we need to enter the name of the ISP (Internet service provider), which does not affect our access to the Internet, so we can enter it according to our own preferences, where the author enters his name "Adan" and clicks next to continue.

Enter ISP name

This step will need to apply the broadband line when the ISP gave us the PPPoE dial-up username and password, generally when we install broadband, the installer will tell the user. Under this dialog, there are two options: "Use this account name and password when any user connects to the Internet from this computer" and "make it the default Internet connection." Windows XP is a multi-user operating system, home surfing generally do not need too many restrictions, so here we do not need to set the first item by default option. The second item is to make this connection the default Internet connection, and also select the default.

Enter account name and password information

OK, through these settings, we have completed the host's Internet settings, in order to use conveniently, in completing the Installation Wizard interface, we check "add a shortcut to this connection on my desktop." You can surf the Internet by double-clicking the icon on the desktop called "Adan" when you need to surf the Internet.

2, set the host's sharing function.

The Internet share features that come with the Windows 98 operating system are not very powerful, so we generally use Proxy server software for Internet sharing, and using Proxy Server software can be a huge drain on system resources, and Windows XP Internet share functionality is well integrated, and it is recommended that you use the shared Internet feature that Windows XP brings together. After the host has implemented Internet access, let's take a look at how to set up shared functionality for the host.

Before setting up a connection share, we need to set the IP address of the NIC that is connected to another PC to 192.168.0.1, and the subnet mask will be generated automatically, and generally do not change. Telecom operators in order to save most of the IP users of the broadband line is the use of dynamic access to IP address technology, so the network connection adsl/cable modem devices do not need to set IP address, using automatic access to IP addresses.

After setting the IP address of the host, let me take you to set up the sharing function. In the previous step, we completed the host's Internet settings, when the Network Neighbor Properties dialog box is opened again, we will find that there is a more broadband connection icon. Right-click the Properties option for the Adan broadband connection

Open Broadband Connection Properties

In the Pop-up Properties dialog box, select Advanced, and you will see Internet Connection Sharing below this option. By default, this feature is turned off, where we click the checkbox to open the ability to share this broadband connection on a local area network. The other two options, the default is open, we can choose according to their own needs.

3, set up the client to share the Internet.

With the above settings, our host can provide shared access to the client, and then we need to make some settings for the client to use the shared services provided by the host.

First we need to install the NIC driver correctly on the client, after installing the NIC driver, right click on the desktop's Network Neighborhood "Properties" option. Under the Local connection icon, click the "Properties" option. In the property interface that pops up, double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

Then we can set the IP address of the client, select the "Use the following IP address" checkbox, fill in the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway and other information, in the example we enter "192.168.0.2". The subnet mask here will also automatically generate "255.255.255.0", the default gateway is our host IP address "192.168.0.1". The next option is the DNS server and the IP address of the host to be entered.

When the modification is complete, click OK to save, unlike Windows 98, where the Windows XP operating system does not require a reboot after changing the network settings. When the save is complete, the client can access the Internet via the host's shared services.

Finally Netizen friends also need to pay attention to three points:

In the LAN, the IP address of the two machines can not be repeated, otherwise it will cause the computer because of the conflict of IP address can not be normal Internet.

In addition, the computer name of the network can not be repeated, if duplicate names, will also cause the Internet can not be normal. Many users install XP, will not modify the machine's hostname, are installed in accordance with the default settings, if the use of the same installation disk, it is possible to duplicate the situation.

In the end, both computers must be on a workgroup network, and if they are not in the same workgroup, they can also cause an inability to surf the internet properly.
